Ann’s POV

My broken body is filled with relentless pain. Even when Mark pointed a gun at my forehead, I could barely lift my head to meet his eyes.

Perhaps I should accept this as the end.

Vicente is not going to come. I told him not to.

The only thing making me sad is Tessa. I can't let her die because of me.

I look sideways at her; she is still whimpering, her body trembling with fear and horror.

A sudden surge of energy fills me.
I can't let Isaac kill my mother, kill me, and also kill Tessa.

Tessa needs to survive. I should help her go, even if it means getting killed by either Mark or Isaac.

Isaac is nowhere to be found, but Mark still has the gun pointed in my face.

“Call him, will you?”

“I already told you we broke up. I ended things with him. We are not on good terms so why should I call him to come and rescue me, uhn?”

“Shut the fuck up and do what I say! I don't care if you broke up or not. Just call him, dammit!” He spits in my face before standing upright again, cursing beneath his breath.

“He should pay with his life for killing my brother!”

I am curious to know why I never knew about him. I assumed Carter was Isaac’s only child. Knowing that Mark is also his son is shocking.

“Why didn't I know you?” I suddenly ask. “I mean I was with them for years before I…”

He kicks my stomach, and that gives me the opportunity to lay back on the ground and hold onto the ropes tied to my hands to kick him back.

He stumbles backwards but doesn't fall like I expect him to.
Rage fills his eyes as he charges towards me.

I recall all the training Vicente gave me. But I can do little with my hands and legs tied.

Before he gets to me, I drag myself up and kick him again with my tied legs, the string sticking to his thighs.

Blood gushes out, and his eyes widen in fear.

Tessa screams again, and I fear more people might come in.
Panic strikes my inside when he falls to the ground, the gun leaving his hands.

Quickly, I drag my feet forward to move the gun towards me. When his eyes shift to me, I go still, hoping he won't see the gun.

His gaze shifts, and his attention remains on the gun and my feet.

He makes an effort to grab it, but I manage to drag it closer to my two feet and trap it.

He places his two hands on the ground to steady him up with the blood gushing out of his thighs.

I continue to drag the gun further to me so I can hold it in my hands. My stomach churns.

A vein throbs in my temple. My body aches, but I keep trying to do what I have to.

I need to save Tessa.

Vicente isn't coming. No one is coming to save us.

Suddenly, a shot rings out, and my eyes and body stiffen when Mark stumbles backwards, his body lying lifeless in front of me.

All the hairs on my body stood on their ends at the impending danger.

Tessa freezes with terror, and our eyes meet.

I can't turn my head to see who just shot Mark, but Tessa can. Slowly, she turns her head back to see the person approaching with stealthy footsteps.

I watch her, waiting for a reaction, to know if we are safe or doomed.
She doesn't react for a second. But suddenly, she starts to tremble.

Her body shakes with fear.

I shut my eyes, waiting for the results of what just happened. I can no longer muster a single ounce of strength to do anything.

“Fernando…” Tessa’s broken voice makes me flutter, and my eyes open again to meet Fernando's piercing gaze.

He is still pointing the gun at Mark as he kicks his lifeless body to confirm if he is truly dead or just pretending to be.

His gaze shifts to me, and I wait for him to say something.

To tell me Vince is here.

How could he be here without Vicente? Did Vicente tell him to come in his stead? How could he do that?

I always knew he was heartless, but I thought I meant something to him.

After confirming Mark is dead, he rushes to Tessa, and they hug. Without wasting more time, he helps her out of the rope, and she stands up and rushes towards me.

While Fernando works on getting the strings tied to my feet off, she helps to untie the ropes tied to my hands and pole.

I groan with pain.

My whole body is on fire.

Just like how my heart is on fire. Breaking into tiny pieces all over again.

When I am free, I realize how worn out and fatigued I am when I can barely stand on my own until Tessa helps me up.

I stand in front of Fernando with my body slung around Tessa’s.

“Where is Vicente?” I ask him, unable to keep my cool. “He didn't come, did he?”

I am on the verge of breaking down and letting it all out.

I wanted him to come. I wanted him to rescue me, but I couldn't say that when I found out what coming here meant.

Isaac wouldn't spare him.

Even though Isaac meant to kill me, I was also a means to an end. It was a means for them to get rid of Vicente finally. They wanted to use me to get him, but I didn't like that.

“I think they got him,” Fernando’s voice hits me, and I jerk upright, letting go of Tessa’s hold on me.

“Wh…what do you mean?” I stutter, beads of cold sweat dripping down my forehead.

“I was surprised he didn't get here before me. He was supposed to which means they probably got him. Let's get out of here.”

I almost stumble backwards in shock.

He came. Vicente came. They got him.

The words process slowly in my brain before I glance around. When my eyes fall on the gun I was trying to reach before Mark was shot, I grab it quickly.

Tessa holds onto me again as we stay behind Fernando.

His phone pings, and he picks up. “They got Don. Split into two. Meet me from the back. Get the others to come in from the front. ASAP!”

I force back a whimper.

Livid with rage, I disengage from Tessa’s arms again and mutter.

“Take Tessa to a safe place, Fernando.”

His eyes grow wide with panic. Tessa shakes her head, realizing what I am about to do.

“No!” She continues to shake her head.

Fernando doesn't say a word.
“Please!”

“I'm sorry but I have strict instructions to get you two out. You can't handle this man, Annette.”

I swallow hard, my throat burning. “Then let's do this together. I brought this upon myself and I have vowed to kill Isaac myself for killing my mother.”

A shot rings out in the distance, and he grabs Tessa’s hand. “Hold on to her tightly.”

We move out, and I position the gun in the air, waiting for a threat to shoot.

Luca appears, and Fernando turns to me. “Luca will take you home. Isaac Rossi will meet you at home, I promise.”

I understand what he means. If I will be the one to end Isaac, then I will be fulfilled.

Luca grabs our hands, and I whimper. “Vince. Vicente. Please save Vicente.”

Fernando nods before disappearing down the hallway.
