Vince’s POV
“What?!” Both Fernando and Tessa exclaims in surprise.
I believe Fernando is more surprised than Tessa because Tessa suddenly smirked like she knew this was going to happen.
“Took you guys so long to eventually figure your feelings out, uhn?” She glares playfully at me, and I smile.
“Are you serious, Vince? Have you thought it through?” Fernando sits back in front of me, peering down to know if I am being serious.
“Of course, Fernando,” Ann replies to him instead. “We are getting married.”
“But you two are married already, aren't you?” He asks again, and Ann rolls her eyes.
“Yes, but that wasn't planned. The situation is different now, hence the need to remarry.”
I take a gulp of the wine, ignoring Fernando’s intense look. I wonder what really is his problem.
His solid belief that I can never fall in love is ridiculous. Then he assumed even if I was in love, Ann would never love me back.
So much for being an analyst.
“Wow!” He raises his hands in surrender before turning to Tessa and giving her a high-five.
“You owe a thousand dollars,” Tessa wags a finger at him, and he nods in agreement.
“Don't tell me you guys made a bet on us?” Ann begins to laugh, and Tessa joins in.
“Literally but not…”
“Shut up!” Ann hits her arm playfully, and I find myself laughing at her playfulness. This is it. This is what I want. This is the woman I fell in love with.
Engrossed in the sight before me, I don't realize I am not the subject of mockery until Ann turns to me and bursts into laughter.
“He is smitten.” Tessa joins in, and Fernando grabs my hand and drags me out of the living room, where the girls are still laughing.
“We have a wedding to plan, girl.” I hear Tessa say before we are out of earshot.“Time to talk business,” Fernando mentions, reminding me of the real reason why I decided to come here with Annette.
She doesn't know yet, but after planning this out with Fernando, she needs to know.
“Donald,” I start. “I have every information I need on him and all we need is a female dealer to get the work.”
Fernando nods. “Who are you thinking?”
He slumps to the chair on the veranda, and I do the same opposite him. I stare at him without a word, and he gasps.
“No, no, no Vicente.” He must have figured it out. “It can't work.”
“Why can't it?”
“Because I can't let her…”
“She is the Mafia Queen, Fernando. She is getting initiated soon. I think it's time she gets used to the title already and she is the best to use in this situation.”
“What?!” Confusion dawns on his expression. “You mean Ann?”
I nod. “Who were you thinking? Tessa?”
“Yes.”
I shake my head at his protectiveness. “Jerk.”
“Well, Ann is more trained so I thought…”
“Jerk!” I glare at him harshly. “Donald might have seen Annette’s face before during the kidnap but that isn't the point. He isn't going to appear until the deed is done. Once Ann gets the job done, we need to get her out before he appears,” I explain to him.
He thinks about it for a while before asking. “And if he appears before she leaves? Any plan B?”
“There is always a plan B,” I lean backward. “The drug might not be in effect immediately so if he appears, she shoots.”
With doubt, he questions. “Can she?”
I snort and chuckle. “She is my wife, remember?”
“So?”
I lean forward to whisper the information he doesn't know about Ann yet. “That woman in there is fearless, brave more than you can imagine. Do you know who killed Isaac Rossi?”
His eyes widen. “She did? You allowed her?”
“Of course. He is her enemy as much as he is to us. He ruined her more than he ruined things for us. It was an honor watching her drive the numerous bullets into his skull.” I say with a devilish smirk.
The image of that day always gives me a thrill of satisfaction that I can not explain.
“Wow.”
“Just wow.”
We fall silent.
When he looks behind to be sure none of the girls are in earshot, he asks. “Do you really love her?”
I nod.“Really really?”
I throw him a cold glare. “Shut up!”
“Are you sure about getting remarried? Are you sure none of you wants an annullment anymore? Should I call my lawyer?”
At this point, I know he is messing with me. With one swift movement, I have him trapped to the wall with my hands pushed against his throat.
“Stop messing with me.”
He only grins and pats my shoulder. “Finally, finally, Vicente Di'Alberto Alberto has become human.”
I drop my hand, and he swings his arm around my shoulder, leading me back inside.
“Are you going to invite Ryan?” I hear Tessa asking Ann. Ann doesn't reply immediately, but when she looks up, our eyes meet.
“You guys are back?” Tessa whirls around. “I was just asking Ann if we can invite Ryan to the wedding.”
Ann bites her lips. “I'm not sure if Vince is comfortable…”
“I am. Ryan is family. The question is do you want him to come?”
Ann stares at me momentarily, perhaps to figure out if I am being serious about having her ex at our wedding. “Yeah, sure. I went to his wedding so he needs to attend mine too.”
“Yayyyy.”
We sit down, and Tessa moves towards Ann, who suddenly looks pale.
Tessa whirls around to me before I can get down the stool to Ann.
“Is Annette pregnant?”
I realize the question is directed at me, but Ann and Fernando’s mouths are hanging open in shock.
“Preg? Pregnant?”
Tessa nods. “She went in to puke earlier and now she is all white and pale and I think these are early signs of pregnancy or what do you think?”
Is Tessa messing with me, too?
I shift my gaze to Ann, and she is as shocked as I am.I gulp and walk close to Ann. We hug each other and I whisper in her ears. “Are you pregnant?”
She doesn't answer until I pull away with my eyes piercing deep into her amber eyes.
She opens her mouth, and the only thing that leaves her mouth is. “Am I?”
Tessa, Fernando, and even Ann all burst into laughter and I heave a deep sigh of relief before joining in the laughter.
