S. Part 19

"I'm fine-- I can do it myself." Sophie growled as she snatched the spoon from Leo, shooting him an exaggerated pout. 

He laughed and handed over the bowl with a shrug. "As you wish, your majesty."

It had been a week since the rescue, and Sophie was completely back to her feisty self. Matteo had woken for the first time that morning, and so everyone was relieved and in good spirits. Wren especially, who'd been taking care of Matteo, Eden, and Sophie while they all recovered from the events. 

Sophie was fine other than the physical injuries, and so was Matteo, but Eden was having a hard time. She stuck close to Sophie, not wanting to leave her side. She didn't want to leave the house either; she called one of her workers at the cafe and had them step in as temporary manager, saying she'd had some family emergency and needed some time away. 

Elena was being held in the sublevels of the house, locked away in a room with nothing but a bed and herself. They were trying to figure out what to do with her. 

 Eden lay with her head in Sophie's lap, who sat cross-legged on the floor, eating a bowl of soup from the kitchen. She spooned bites into Eden's mouth every now and then, and Wren couldn't help but smile. He was happy for them. 

Wren stood and left the room, walking slowly down the hallways. He though about everything that had happened-- from the time he was dragged here in the middle of the night, the abuse, the fire, getting married and having Sophie, being kidnapped and the work he'd put in over many years after that to try and pull himself together-- he let out a deep sigh. He trailed his fingers over the wallpaper as he headed to Matteo's office.

He smiled as he swiped a tear away, his heart full. Whatever would happen next-- after everything he'd been through-- he knew he could take it. 

He wouldn't break again.
