Elena was on top of Sophie, who looked like she'd been beaten within inches of her life. One side of her face looked like red paint had been poured down it; blood that'd been smeared on her skin. Her arms were bound to rings on the floor, so she couldn't defend herself. She wasn't even conscious enough to do so.

Elena sat on her chest, straddling her and restricting Sophie's already labored breathing. She held a large knife in her hand, grinning as she carved lines into Sophie's arms and chest.

Matteo charged forward, slamming into the woman and knocking her off. They rolled, the momentum carrying them far from Sophie's limp body and causing them to slam into a wall. Matteo felt a sharp stab in his gut, but paid no attention. Rage filled his body as he rolled on top of Elena, wrapping his hands around her neck.

Dace ignored the scuffle, immediately falling to his knees beside Sophie. He cupped her cheek, shaking her head a little. Her eyes roved around, unfocused and cloudy. He pulled a knife from his vest and cut through the ropes that bound her, then scooped her into his arms. "Hang in there, you're gonna be okay. You're fine." He dashed out of the room, going back down the halls until he found the door, running into the other men.

"Take her to the van; if we're not back in ten minutes leave without us. She needs medical attention." Dace shouted as he ran back inside, headed towards the room.

Matteo was choking Elena, whose hand was still wrapped around the knife, trying to plunge it deeper into his abdomen. Dace rushed over and pushed him off, and Elena gasped for breath. Dace didn't give her a chance to do anything; he grabbed cuffs from his pocket and snapped them onto her wrists, yanking her up by them.

Matteo gasped as he kneeled on the floor, a hand over his wound. He peeled his sticky fingers away from the vest, staring at the red that coated his hand.

"Come on, man! We have to go!" Dace shouted, snapping Matteo out of his daze.

He barely felt pain-- his adrenaline was too high for that-- but the fear that consumed him was almost unbearable. Was Sophie okay? Had she been hurt too bad-- was he too late?

He stumbled along behind Dace, watching him drag Elena as she protested in a hoarse voice. they made it out to the van, where Matteo immediately went into the back, to be with Sophie.

Dace sighed and turned to the others. "Call for another car."

Matteo held Sophie in his arms, his tears dripping down on her bloody body. Her breathing was ragged. Matteo himself was starting to pass out, blood seeping through his vest.

They screeched into the driveway of the mansion, and two men pulled Sophie from Matteo. He fought to get her back, but they insisted he was in worse shape than he was feeling. The men helped him out of the back of the van, but as his feet hit the ground, his knees buckled out from under him.

"Oh my god-- no--" Wren ran out the door of the mansion, coming up alongside the men who carried Sophie. "Is she okay? Tell me she's okay-- Matteo!" Wren caught sight of his husband being hauled up by another man. He ran to him, eyes wide with fear as he stared at the dark patch on Matteo's clothes. "What happened? Are you okay?" HIs voice was high and shaky, like he was about to cry.

"I'm fine-- go with her--" Matteo grunted. Wren nodded and ran after Sophie.

The men were taking her to the infirmary, and he caught up just as they were going through the doors. Leo looked up from his papers, his face paling. "Oh my god--" he muttered as he jumped up. "Um, lay her here." he rushed over and helped the men lay Sophie down.

Wren was frantic, his hands shaking as he tried to adjust Sophie's torn clothes, blood staining his hands. "Sophie? Wake up-- Leo, help her-- help me--" His legs gave out and he crashed to the ground, his head swimming.

"Wren, please try to take deep breaths, okay? I'm going to help her. I need you to move." Leo needed to stand where Wren had fallen. Wren was sobbing too hard to be able to move, so one of the men grabbed him under the arms and dragged him back a little.

Matteo suddenly stumbled through the door, leaning on one of the other men's arm.

"Good god, you didn't tell me he got hurt too!" Leo rushed to help get Matteo into the other bed.

Wren didn't leave the room for even a moment for the next few hours as Leo stitched Sophie's many gashes, and treated Matteo's stab wound. Then he got an IV in Sophie, and gave both of them an injection for pain. Both of them slept peacefully after that.

Sorry this one wasn't so good-- I'm struggling mentally and have a lot of family issues going on, so I haven't had much motivation to work on any of my books.

Have a great day, Darlings♥
