The message Xisuma sent out that day was unexpected for most of the hermits. Sure, the weather had been bad, but usually they would just wait it out in their bases. But a server-wide evacuation to a safe bunker had never happened before. Some were worried; some were annoyed that their work had been interrupted. But for Grian, he didn't see how it was such a big deal.

Besides, the weather forecast was usually wrong anyway. So he decided to keep on working on his base in hermitville. In hindsight, it wasn't a great idea, but if he fell, he had wings anyway, he could catch himself. And so, whilst other hermits began to shelter in the bunker, Grian was out in the category 5 hurricane that was sweeping over most of the server.

Pulling out various spruce blocks from his chests, he began to visualise in his head what the next section of his house would look like. He was working on a section which was 200m up in the air and wanted defences against the other tall houses in the build competition. Flying up to where he had stopped the previous day, Grian began to build up a floor which stretched precariously out of the building, held up only by a few supports.

Flying out, he scrutinised the placement of it, and, deciding he was happy, returned to begin building up the walls. In the howling wind however, he didn't hear the creaking of moving wood, or notice how it began to tilt to one side. He shivered slightly in the merciless wind that bit at him. Climbing on-top of the wall, he vaguely felt the build shift underneath him.

There was a loud creak, and the newest room tilted downwards, throwing G off his feet. Grabbing a support structure, he held on as the wind sliced through his thin clothing, attacking his skin. Just as he was beginning to feel a sense of relief that he had caught himself, there was a series of loud snaps above him as the wooden support structures began to splinter. Then, the entire room collapsed, and G lost his grip on it, and began to plummet.

Pushing off the wooden mass of beams and tiles, he tried to spread his wings. He expertly caught a draft of rising wind underneath his feathers, but before G could glide away, a metal rod speared through his right wing. He let out a scream of pain, and instinctively curled his wings around his body, forming a tight ball. Frantically realising he was speeding up in the air, he outstretched his wings, screeching at the pain, but it was too late.

Pain flooded his body. There was a crushing pressure from above him, splinters and heavy wooden beams crushing him. He was vaguely aware of something warm trickling down his forehead, and pooling around his body.

If this was dying, then wasn't the pain meant to fade? If this was dying, then why did he hear screams? He didn't think it was his own, but the avian couldn't be sure. He felt the weight on his body lessen, then suddenly, he felt nothing at all, and his eyesight faded to black.

"Grian, come back to us!"

"He doesn't have a p-pulse!"

"Starting compressions!"

"Keep the rod in, pack the wound around it,"

"Please, G, dude, wake up!"

He first noticed the throbbing pain that split through his skull. Then, he began to feel the rest of his body. It was sore, battered and broken. Soft bandages were wrapped around him, and there was a cast over his right wing. A soft regular beeping sound drew his attention, and he opened his eyes. He was hooked up with an IV in his arm, with a heart monitor next to him showing his pulse, which was the source of the beeping noise.

He moved slightly, and felt pain rack through his sluggish body, unwillingly letting out a shriek of pain. Stress and Xisuma rushed into the room, worry clear on their faces. When they saw he was awake, they both looked extremely relieved.

"Grian, welcome back to the land of the living," X said, whilst fidgeting with his sleeve.

"Are you ok G? Where does it hurt?" Stress fussed over him, before forcing paracetamol down his throat.

Choking on the paracetamol slightly, the avian said "I'm fine, Stress. How long was I out for?"

"6 days," said X, "and that's not all. You were dead for about 3 minutes, no pulse, before we got your heart beating again. I dread to think what would've happened if Scar hadn't have gone back to bring Jellie {o7} to the bunker..."

Grian sat in shocked silence for a few seconds. He had been dead. If Scar had left 5 minutes later, then he would've been too late.

"I... thank you..." he murmured.

"It's not me you should be thanking, it's Scar, and Stress for nursing you back to health. Also, when you're in a better shape, we're gonna have a talk about overworking yourself," X replied sternly.

Grian gulped and weakly whispered "Uh-oh... Stress help!"
