"Why would you want to leave Bremen?" The man who introduced himself as Clovis asked. Laviel turned around, shocked, and wondered why he asked that question. Laviel didn't want to talk about it. Just remembering what had happened made her want to cry and run away again, but she had to be strong. Silence filled the air except for their boat splashing through the water. The sail they were on continued on to their destination. The island of Bohria appeared in the Horizon and the Island of Bremen got smaller and smaller as they moved forward. "I don't want to talk about it" Laviel said. Laviel stopped herself from thinking of the past. If she didn't, her fear could eat her completely.
Before she knew it, she noticed Clovis looking at her necklace.
Oh-" Laviel said.
"That's an unusual necklace". Laviel held her silver hunting necklace and stuffed it in her fur coat. The necklace had a pendant attached to it, which was shaped like a bow that had a human arrow nocked into it. The pendant symbolized her hunting group. Silver for about 9-10 years of hunting.
"Your from Cirrane" Clovis Guessed.
Laviel nodded. Cirrane was a small town perched on top of small mountain in Bremen. The main livelihood was hunting, which made sense since lots of animals lived in the forest below. The fur collected were usually used to make clothing or either sold to make profit. That's also how people got food. Either they would hunt for themselves, or take food from the canteen. The canteen was small, and only housed up to 15 people, so if you couldn't hunt, you have to arrive there early. Laviel, was one of the best hunters in town. Often, she was sent out to hunt outside of the mountain, which was especially hard. If you didn't know the place well enough, you would get lost and be eaten by bears in the process.
"Almost there folks" The ferryman announced grimly. The island got closer and closer.
Now that she noticed it, she hadn't brought much supplies with her. She only brought her bow Tempest, which was the first and only bow she received from her parents (who she didn't want to think about at the moment) , a pouch full of money, and her quiver. She didn't even bring extra clothes! But for her, safety always came first, she never went out of town without her bow and quiver.
Behind her, Clovis fiddled with his knife. His long braided hair flowed with the wind. He wore a brown shirt made of cotton, and shoulder pads made of steel. He wore a tunic which draped around his legs and combat boots that were made out of leather, and were especially hard to make.
"What do you plan on doing when you get there?" Laviel finally asked.
"Actually-"
"Were here folks" The ferryman announced though it was clear his heart wasn't in his job. "Now step off the boat so I can rest"
The first thing Laviel saw when she got out was a sign that read: "Welcome to Sharnwick!"
Sharnwick was the main port for ships that travelled in and out. Which made sense since it was the only tropical place in Bohria. If the ships docked in other parts of the country, the decks might freeze.
The town was beautiful. Simple, yet inviting. White stucco buildings lined the front coast of the island, near the beach.
Along the beach, tall Palmeras were arranged in a horizontal manner. The beach itself was bustling with activity. Kids ran on the shore, splashing water at each other, while the more mature people laid down on blankets and sunbathed. Behind the stucco houses, small huts circled the central fountain, which spurted water 4 feet up the air.
People sat down on benches which were plopped all around the fountain. A few seagulls glided around the town center, causing trouble for some people. The sun above them shone brightly, making the sea glitter. The pier had a small watchtower perched on either side of a small cliff that overlooked the sea. Each tower had a sentry and oversized crossbows mounted on the platform. A small bell hung from the top which were for incoming attacks from invaders or troublemakers. If that was sounded, there was an assigned formation for the people to get to safety, and reinforcements were most likely to come.
Behind her, Clovis walked over and said "Can I go with you?"
