The rest of the morning passed in a blur of silence and stolen glances.
Kiara wasn’t sure what to make of this shift between them. Agastya hadn’t run. He hadn’t called it a mistake. But that didn’t mean things had magically changed.
If anything, they’d only gotten more complicated.
By the time she was dressed and ready to leave, he was sitting at the edge of her bed, running a hand through his already messy hair. His shirt was still unbuttoned, his skin marked with evidence of last night, and the sight made her stomach twist.
Not with regret.
With something far more dangerous.
Something that made her want to grab his collar and pull him back into bed.
Instead, she took a breath. “Are you staying?”
Agastya exhaled, his gaze flickering to her before settling on the floor. “No. I’ll leave in a bit.”
A part of her deflated, but she pushed it down. What else had she expected?
She grabbed her bag and moved toward the door, hesitating for only a second before speaking.
“See you at uni.”
It wasn’t a question. It was a fact. Because no matter what happened between them in the dark, the daylight always brought them back to reality.
To who they were supposed to be.
Agastya didn’t respond immediately. But as she stepped out, his voice followed her.
“Kiara.”
She turned.
His expression was unreadable, his fingers tightening around the sheets. “Be careful.”
The warning wasn’t new. But something about the way he said it now so quiet, so raw sent a shiver down her spine.
She nodded, forcing a small smile. “You too.”
And then she left.

Kiara wasn’t sure how she made it to university.
Her body moved on autopilot, but her mind was stuck in that morning. In the weight of Agastya’s arm draped over her. In the way he hadn’t called it a mistake.
