The crescent moon rose to the dimmed sky.
The halls in the upper floors of the educational center were comfortably silent, any chatter locked away and muffled by the room walls. Most toons were preparing for bed, or already asleep. Still a few were up, either working or just not tired, perhaps having other plans...
The door to an eerily lighted room opened. A pale blue ghost slipped through the opening, quietly shutting it behind her. She floated through the corridor, her vision only lit by the few dimmed lamps on the walls. She stopped at a red door, taking note of the many, many stickers plastered across its surface. One was a colourful box, with the name 'Gigi' written within.
Gently, she knocked on the door. A clattering noise could be heard from within, accompanied by a shuffling. A smiling red gachapon peeked out from behind.
"Don't mind the mess, I cleared out the couch for us," the friendly toon spoke as she stepped aside to let her friend in, locking the door soon after. The phantom gladly floated over onto the aforementioned furniture, leaning back against the armrest. The red capsule hopped on at the opposite end, grabbing the controller and scrolling through different shows.
The ghost took note of the many, many cabinets and shelves crammed full of items. Shiny coins, cute plushies, colourful buttons — you name it, it was somewhere in the room. Even the floor was full of various boxes and tables full of stuff. It had to be the most happening room she had ever seen.
"How about this one?"
The girl turned to the screen, taking a moment to read the show's synopsis before replying.
"Yeah, that's fine."
"Alright, movie night's on!"
She couldn't help but smile at the girl's excitement.
...
Halfway into the movie, Connie couldn't seem to focus.
She curled up the best she could against the corner of the couch, crossing her arms together whilst rubbing them. For whatever reason, whenever it was midnight she'd get inexplicably colder like some kind of wicked curse. She never got used to it and despite how much she'd try, she believed she never will. All she could do was bear the biting cold.
The toon next to her noticed this odd behaviour.
"Connie, are you okay?"
"Uh- I'm fine," she answered, even though she knew she was shivering.
Gigi didn't believe her one bit.
"Come," she held her arms open wide.
"What-"
"Just come closer, I promise it'll help."
Connie hesitated before reluctantly sliding over. When she was about halfway across the couch, the gachapon reached over and grabbed her into a great big hug. The ghost nearly jumped at the sudden contact, almost losing her balance and falling over. Quickly though, she started to melt into the hug. Gigi enveloped her like a big, warm blanket, her sweater feeling unbelievably soft. Not feeling nearly as cold as before, she wrapped her arms around the capsule, reciprocating the hug.
"Better?" The gachapon asked with a smile.
"Yea..." the phantom let go somewhat sheepishly, still holding onto the other girl's arms.
"I can help keep you warm if you want me to," she replied, moving to a more comfortable sitting position.
"I'd like that."
...
Gigi sat leaning back against the armrest, Connie resting her head against her belly. The gachapon capsule had her sleeves wrapped around the ghost's pale blue arms.
"Man, that was a good movie," Gigi said as she stretched her arms. "We should probably sleep now though."
"...Hey Gi?"
"Hm?"
"Can I uh..." she paused for a moment before asking, "Is it okay if I stay with you tonight?"
"...Because of the cold?"
"Ugh, yes of course it's the cold," she rolled her eyes. "Though... I do like spending time with you, y'know," the ghost admitted quietly, not daring to look the gachapon in the eyes.
Gigi chuckled, seeing Connie's uncharacteristic shyness. "To be honest, I was ready to accept your request either way. But it's nice hearing that you like being around me."
"Mhm..."
"Alright, c'mere." The red toon sat on the bed with her arms outstretched. As the ghost came into her range, she embraced her, dragging her down to the mattress.
Connie curled up against Gigi, burying herself further into her warmth. The gachapon hugged her closer, gently stroking her soft hair. The ghost's tail wrapped itself around the other's legs, her hands and head resting against her chest. She felt a warmness she never knew before, a burning in her heart creeping up her face. And she never wanted this feeling to leave.
