The next morning, Eunha stood in front of the mirror, staring at her reflection with a sense of uncertainty.
There was a part of her that still didn't quite believe she was here, in this place, with these people, and a growing realization that she couldn't keep pretending. It was time to face the truth. She had to leave soon. She had no choice.
The sound of footsteps behind her made her heart skip a beat, and she turned to see Eunbi standing in the doorway, her expression a mix of curiosity and concern.
"Eunha?" Eunbi's voice was soft but insistent. "Are you okay?"
Eunha took a slow breath, gathering the courage she needed to speak. She had no idea how to explain, but she had to try. "Eunbi, I..." Her voice faltered, and she looked away, fighting to keep the tears at bay. "I'm leaving soon."
Eunbi blinked in confusion, as though she hadn't expected those words. "What do you mean? Leaving? Where are you going?"
"I don't know yet," Eunha murmured, her gaze falling to the floor. "But I can't stay here. I don't belong here. I can't pretend anymore."
Eunbi stepped forward, her brows furrowing. "Eunha, please, don't say that. You do belong here. You've become a part of this family, we're all—"
"I'm not who you think I am," Eunha interrupted, her voice thick with emotion. She shook her head, as though trying to shake off the weight of her own words. "I don't belong in this world. Not like this."
Eunbi's eyes widened, and she reached out, gently placing a hand on Eunha's arm. "Eunha, please talk to me. You're not making sense. What do you mean you don't belong here?"
Eunha closed her eyes, willing herself not to break down. "There's so much I haven't told you. I can't keep living this lie. I can't stay here anymore. I need to go. And I need to tell Aunty too. I owe her that much."
Eunbi looked stunned, as if she couldn't quite process what Eunha was saying. "You... you're leaving us? Without telling us what's going on?"
"I'm sorry," Eunha whispered, her voice trembling now. "I never meant to hurt anyone. But I can't stay. It's not just about me anymore."
The silence that hung between them was heavy. Eunbi stood there, her gaze searching Eunha's face, as if trying to piece together the puzzle that Eunha was too afraid to reveal.
"Please, just talk to eomma first," Eunbi pleaded, her voice softening with concern. "She needs to know. We both need to understand what's going on."
Eunha nodded slowly, her heart heavy with the weight of the conversation that was still ahead. She could feel the eyes of both Eunbi and Aunty on her, but it was the look in Eunbi's eyes—the hurt and confusion—that made her want to stay, to explain, to somehow make things right.
"I'll tell her," Eunha said, the words tasting bitter on her tongue. "I'll tell her everything. But I can't stay."
Later that afternoon, Eunha found herself sitting across from Aunty, the woman who had taken her in when she had no place to go, who had shown her kindness even when she hadn't deserved it. Aunty's face was soft, wrinkled with age and wisdom, but there was an understanding in her eyes that made Eunha feel like she was breaking something delicate.
"Aunty," she began, her voice small, "there's something I need to tell you."
Aunty tilted her head, her gaze kind but sharp. "What is it, Eunha? What's troubling you?"
Eunha opened her mouth, but the words stuck. She could feel her heart racing, her hands shaking in her lap. This was it. There was no turning back now.
"I can't stay here," she said, finally finding the courage. "I have to leave soon. I don't belong here, Aunty. I'm not who you think I am."
