"After the maze, I got picked up by a group headed to the city," Gally explains as he leads us through the building he's been staying in.
"They realised I was immune, patched me up... and they brought me here, to Lawrence."
"This groups been at war with W.C.K.D ever since they took control of the city," he continues, everyone listening idly while their eyes dart around.
There's men with guns everywhere, I don't think I've seen a single woman since getting here. Scratch that, my eyes land on a woman standing near a pillar with two men.
"But W.C.K.D can't hide behind those walls forever," Gally says, his tone containing an underlying layer of anger towards W.C.K.D. "Days gonna come and they're gonna pay for what they've done."
I glance at Newt, his eyes catching my gaze. He gently takes my hand and gives it a quick squeeze of reassurance before letting go.
I feel stupid, having to rely on another person for comfort... but I can't seem to find comfort in myself.
Maybe it's the mental health issues, maybe it's the relation to my family, maybe it's the fact that all I seem to be doing is existing... never making problems, but also never fixing them.
All of a sudden, Gally stops and turns to us, his tone softer than before as he speaks up. "Listen, uh... he doesn't get a lot of visitors," he says. "So, let me do the talking, alright?"
There's a silence between us all, not agreeing or disagreeing as such.
"And try not to stare," Gally adds before walking off, leaving us slightly confused and curious.
We glance between ourselves before following him. He leads us into a large room and down a set of stairs, where two men are hanging around.
One of the men seems to be repeating a tongue twister of sorts. Rose took my nose, I suppose... strange.
"Gally," the man who had been talking says. Gally nods in acknowledgement as he continues approaching the guy.
"Glad to see you made it back, Jasper told me what happened," the guy, who I assume is Lawrence, says.
"It was a slaughter," Gally says, "there's nothing we could do against those guns." He shrugs slightly.
"No... but they can only poke the hornets nest so long... before they get stung," Lawrence says creepily, picking up a rose from his small garden and smelling it.
"Now, who are these people? Why are they here?" He asks, setting the rose down. "We need to get into W.C.K.D," Thomas says softly, stepping forward. "Gally said you can get us through the walls."
"Gally should know better than to make promises he can't keep," Lawrence says. "Besides, that wall is only half your problem."
He grabs ahold of his IV drip and walks towards us slightly. "Getting inside W.C.K.D is impossible."
I have to bite my tongue so hard to keep quiet.
"There might be a way now," Gally says, shrugging slightly once more. "But it doesn't work without Thomas."
"Is that so?" Lawrence inquires, stepping forward once more. The light shines down onto his face, revealing just how scarred he is.
"You know what I am, Thomas?" He asks.
I divert my eyes as Lawrence leans incredibly close to Thomas. I never thought I had a weak stomach, but that dudes face... holy crap.
"I'm a business man," Lawrence whispers right in Thomas' face.
"Which means that I don't take unnecessary risks," he says as he steps back slightly. "Why should I trust you?" Lawrence asks.
Thomas stares at Lawrence with a look of hidden fear in his eyes.
"Because I can help you," Thomas says, his voice barely understandable due to how quiet he's speaking. "You see, if you can get me through those walls... I can get you what you need."
"What is it that you think I need?" Lawrence tilts his head to the side slightly. "Time," Thomas answers, "every last drop." This causes a scoff from Lawrence.
He glances at Gally before looking back to Thomas, "is that what I need?" He asks rhetorically.
"W.C.K.D has something we both want," Thomas says. "I'll tell you what," Lawrence says after a beat. "Two can go for now. the rest stay down here with me."
Thomas stares at him, silently weighing up his offer. "Just a little insurance to make sure you find your way back," Lawrence says.
Thomas glances back at us, all of us glancing at each other to make sure we're on the same page.
"We have a deal?" Lawrence asks, extending his gross hand. Thomas looks down at his hand before shaking Lawrences.
Ew, he's not touching me with that hand anytime soon.
