saturday hit you like a truck, letting the late sun's rays flow into your room through the blinds. the sheets were messed up due to your constant squirming when you slept, and the scorbunny plushie you got from a nintendo shop somewhere in the city laid comfortably in the corner of your bed.

you sat up. sighed. looked at the clock. 11:43. too late for breakfast, but too early for lunch. yuck, what do i do? you wondered. you recalled that mr umeda miraculously didn't give out homework that week, which was good for you since you didn't know how conjugating or whatever worked.

you pulled your bored ass out of the black hole of a bed you owned and walked over to the kitchen to feed gumi. it's been a while since anything happened, but the cat looked slightly better than before, having regrown his missing fur and looked healthier overall.

the sound of the plastic crinkling woke him up. "here~" you hummed, pouring some into his bowl. your e/c gaze remained on him as he munched on the food for a while, thenopened his cat carrier door to allow him to roam around. "i'm gonna take a shower. don't run away, 'kay?"

you closed the windows to be sure and headed to the bathroom, taking a casual navy blue sweatshirt and denim shorts to change into. in the mirror, you inspected your body for the nth time, checking if the wounds from previous fights healed up already. most of the bruises' colors had reduced from dark purple to light purple, but you doubted it hurt less.

you turned on the showerhead and started lathering your hair with shampoo—"OH SHIT!"

kaji's phone rang. he gargled water and spit it out and put his toothbrush back into its cup before he picked it up, only to be bombarded with your shrieky screams.

"KAJI!! HOLY SHIT, COME OVER!"

"huh?"

"THERE'S A THING! FUCK IT'S FLYING TO ME!! KILL IT! OH MY GOD—"

"...huh?"

"GO! TO! MY! HOUSE! NOWW!! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!" you left the call.

he deadpanned at the phone. he had just woken up an hour ago and was going to eat lunch, but now his plans were terribly disrupted. oh well, it's not like he had much to do that afternoon, and he can just make you pay for lunch.

a changing into a hoodie and jeans and equipping a lollipop and headphones later, he walked out of his house and headed for yours. the town was quite small, so most homes of friends were only a few blocks away.

lining the street were unopened streetlamps there only for display in the day and small trees swaying in the breeze, occasionally scattering leaves into the wind. although it was still not autumn, chilly colds prowled the roads, nipping at bypassers' shoes in hopes of catching someone early in the morning despite the sun lightly shining to protect the people. wind chimes that hung from the tonpu market street's tori gate spread their tinkling music all the way until here.

kaji arrived at your doorstep and knocked. there was no answer except for a few faint screams and curses that came from inside, so he used the spare key you gave him for emergencies instead. the living room and kitchen were dead quiet, the lights turned off. the only thing that moved in the dark was gumi, who was trying to open the cat food cabinet door.

"y/n?" he called out.

"bathroom! hurry the fuck up!!" your voice added in a panicked tone, "please!"

a quiet sigh escaped his lips, but he went over there anyway. hesitantly, he creaked open the door. you were naked and wet. he slammed it close.

"WAIT! KAJI, THERE'S A FLYING THINGY!! COME BACK!"
