Previously...

Team Sonic and Team Dark arrived in the Arctic. Before they head out of the Jet, they all dress in warm clothing for the snowy terrain.

The team begins their mission with a lead, as they trudged through the knee-deep snow, they encounter a creature. A mutated, zombie-like Mobian. Shadow volunteered to put the creature out of its misery.

While the team took a moment to bury the body of the creature, Miles' Chaos Emerald tracker starts beeping, indicating that a Chaos Emerald is nearby.

Then the team is confronted with the arrival of an old enemy. Mephiles.

"Mephiles..." She whispered and Amelia turned to her, her eyes wide.

"Him again?" Knuckles grumbled as he finished the burying of the body and rubbed off the dirt from his gloves, carried Silver and walked to Miles.

"Hey!? Put me down!" Silver yelled, his face reddening as he was slung over Knuckles' shoulder like a towel.

"You're Mephiles' favorite target, you behave." Knuckles huffs as Silver went quiet. "Tails?" He called out to the younger.

Miles looked up at him from his tracker

"My, my, indeed my favorite Hedgehogs are in one place." Mephiles emerged from the warp, his snake-like green eyes gleaming with malice.

Sonic instinctively stood tall in front of Shadow, shielding Shadow from Mephiles. Shadow stood up and watches Sonic's quills glow and raise in anger.

"Step aside Iblis Trigger." The nickname ignited a fire in Sonic. He lunged at Mephiles who turned into his shadow.

Sonic landed on the snow and was quick to stand up, his eyes scanning the surroundings.

"Show yourself!" Shadow yelled as he stepped beside Sonic.

"Guys, take everything and run!" Sonic yelled as he looked over at the rest of the group. "We'll keep Mephiles busy." He mouthed to them.

Knuckles nodded as he puts on his backpack and carried Miles away to an unknown direction away from Mephiles, as Amelia, Blaze, Gadget, Rouge, and Zero, followed behind him.

Zero looked back at them, before continuing to follow the others.

Mephiles emerged from the shadows, his eyes blazing with malevolent intent. Sonic and Shadow stood ready, their stances mirroring each other's.

"You fools." Mephiles sneered. "You think you can stand a chance against me?"

Sonic charged forward, his speed a blue blue. Shadow followed close behind, a Chaos Spear at the ready.

Mephiles laughed, his voice echoing through the air. He raised a hand and shot a ball of dark energy towards Sonic.

Sonic dodging to the side, avoiding the attack by mere inches. Shadow seized the opportunity, unleashing a first Chaos Blast that sent Mephiles stumbling back.

The Chaos Blast starts to drain Shadow's energy, but with gritted teeth, he continued to fight. Mephiles retaliated with a blast of green fire that Sonic barely avoided.

Shadow leapt into the air, avoiding the flames. As he landed, he charged at Mephiles with another Chaos Spear. Mephiles, however, was too quick and warped behind Shadow.

Sonic saw that as opportunity and struck, his speed allowing him to land a serious of lightning quick kicks, leading him away from Shadow. Mephiles stumbled back, his eyes flashed with anger.

Turning into a shadow, merging with the darkness around him. Sonic and Shadow paused, their eyes scanning the area, trying to locate their opponent.

Suddenly, Mephiles reappeared, his shadowy form coalescing into his true self. He unleashed a devastating blast of dark energy, sending the other two flying across the landscape.

They crashed into a mountain, their backs against the stone. Mephiles warped in front of them, his eyes blazing with triumph.

"You're cornered Hedgehogs." He sneered "There's no escape."

Zero materialized out of thin air, the Phantom Ruby's power allowing him to teleport to the battlefield. With a swift and precise kick to Mephiles' abdomen, he sent Mephiles flying across the landscape, his dark energy dissipating.

"I mean, I didn't mean to kick him, I was choosing between using my hand to his face or my foot to his stomach, guess which one won?" Zero grinned at the two as he helped them up.

"You should go, Knuckles cannot protect them alone." Sonic told him, Zero nodded. "Mephiles is out of your league."

"Thank this, it wouldn't stop pulsing." He tapped on the Ruby on his chest. "So Gadget sent me back."

"Atleast you did atleast one good deed in your life." Shadow says sarcastically as he ran off.

"Hey! Fuck you Shadow!" Zero growled as Sonic glared at him.

"He's mine." Sonic growled before running after Shadow.

"Damn right he is." Zero chuckled before his ear twitched and he teleported away.
