Malek and Xavier flew slowly over the city, carrying the unconscious body of Luna after the incident with Ellie. The two talked as they glided through the dark sky, careful to stay out of sight from military surveillance. Xavier held onto Malek's right arm while Malek carried Luna securely in his left.

"That guy was a Materializer, right? Like Evan?" Malek asked.

"Pretty sure," Xavier replied, rubbing his chin. "His face reminded me of someone, but I can't put my finger on who."

"RIGHT?! I SWEAR I'VE SEEN HIM BEFORE!" Malek looked down at his friend, his curiosity growing.

"Same with that girl—Luna," Xavier said, motioning toward her with his head.

"Luna?"

"Yeah, he yelled her name when he saw her unconscious."

Malek furrowed his brows. "That's a name of a girl in our school, isn't it? I've talked to her before."

Xavier shrugged. "Eh, maybe. There's a ton of girls named Luna—it's the U.S., man. People name their kids after moons and star signs all the time."

"True... I didn't get a good look at her since it's dark out. We'll figure it out at HQ."

"Speaking of which—" Xavier nodded ahead. "We're here."

A towering skyscraper came into view, its sleek black surface illuminated by bright white letters: ARACHNA.

The massive structure was the tallest in all of Brooklyn and housed the world's most successful tech corporation, rivaling industry giants like Google. In less than three years, Arachna had revolutionized technology—holograms, high-tech phones, plasma-based weapons, hoverboards, and even flying cars. Of course, most of these advanced products were classified, restricted to a select few investors and high-ranking officials.

Malek and Xavier landed at the entrance, the massive doors sliding open automatically.

Inside, the reception area was sleek and futuristic. Sitting at the front desk was a Blasian woman with shoulder-length curly hair. She wore an expensive-looking suit embroidered with the Arachna logo and adjusted her glasses as she looked up at them.

Her unimpressed stare was the first thing they noticed.

"You're late," she said flatly.

Xavier gave an awkward chuckle. "Yeah, sorry, ma'am. We ran into a bit of a problem—ended up fighting this really strong guy, but—"

"I don't even want to know." She pinched the bridge of her nose like she could already feel a migraine coming on. "Just stand still for five seconds."

Malek grinned, leaning slightly over the desk. "Thanks, beautiful."

"Call me that again, and I'm getting Mr. Evan." She didn't even bother looking up.

"Worth a shot." Malek shrugged.

They stood in front of the reception desk as instructed.

Click.

Without warning, the floor beneath them gave way, and they plummeted down a hidden slide.

"WOOOOOHOOOOO!" Xavier closed his eyes, enjoying the rush.

Malek, on the other hand, clenched his teeth. "OKAY, ARE WE SURE THIS IS SAFE?!"

"MOST LIKELY! BUT EVEN IF WE GET HURT, WE CAN REGENERATE!" Xavier grinned back at him.

"NIGGA, I CAN'T DO THAT! YOU'RE THE LIZARD, NOT ME!"

"WAIT, REALLY? I THOUGHT YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE MARK GRAYSON?"
