The Fable of Riley and the Jerk

Chapter 4

"We're here, are you hungry?" Jake asked.
"As a matter of fact, I am." I stated.
He exited the car and walked without bothering to open my door for me. What a gentleman he is.
As we opened the door of the tiny diner, the sound of a bell jingled.

We sat at a table for two beside the window, there were a few people in the diner, the waiter quickly came over to us.

"Hey Jake, who's your lady friend?" she smiled.
"This is Riley." he gestured.
"Hi, I'm Lucy." the waiter said.
"Hello" I chirped.

"What would you like?" She asked both of us.
"We'd like a medium sized double cheese pizza, and I'll have a coke." Jake said.
"I'll have a Dr. Pepper please." I said.
The waiter nodded and said "I'll be right back"

"Dr. Pepper? Really? Dr. Pepper taste like shit." Jake said.
I glared at him and said "How could you possibly hate Dr. Pepper? You must be out of your mind!" I screeched.

Just as I said that Lucy brought us our drinks. I popped the can open and drank it with pleasure.
"TRY IT!" I pushed my Dr. Pepper towards Jake.
"I have! And I don't like it!" He replied.
"TRY IT AGAIN! YOU MIGHT CHANGE YOUR MIND." I screeched again.

He took a sip of my drink and made a disgusted face. "Ew" he muttered.
"What was that?" I asked sarcastically.
"I said yumm" He lied.
I rolled my eyes and sighed.

"Here you go." Lucy said placing a round plate thing on our table.

Jake and I started digging in, we decided to have a race. Who eats the most pizza's win.

There were about 8 slices and I was finishing my third, while Jake was finishing his forth. And as he was chewing, I took the last one. So it ended up as a tie.

After we were done eating, we sat there with our tummies full.
"Could you pass me by bag?" I said, my bag was sitting next to him.
He picked it up and gave it to me.

I unzipped my bag and took out my skittles, i started munching it when it was taken away from my hand. "Hey! Give it back!" I yelled loudly.

I realized that I had yelled very loudly. Everyone in the diner was quiet and turning to see the source of voice.

I slumped into my seat and kicked Jake's shin as he was laughing enthusiastically.

Lucy then brought us our bill, I reached for my wallet but when I reached for the cheque, he slapped my hand away and placed two 10 dollar bills.

Before he could give it to Lucy, I snatched it and pulled out 10 dollars from my wallet and replaced it with one of his.

"This isn't a date." I said, giving back his money while he looked at me with a small smile.

We walked out the dinner and I jumped into the passenger seat.
He drove me back to school, where my car was, and screamed "Bye Riles! See you tomorrow bestie!" as I walked out of his car.

He drove away and I sat on my car.
I started the engine and made my way home, smiling.
