Chapter 15
Holly
I failed as a parent. I'm a horrible mother. I completely screwed up and now I've lost my daughter. What have I done?
The tears burned my eyes as I pulled away from Bradford. Stepping towards the door, the urge to scream is in my throat. The need to run out of here and find my baby is overwhelming.
"No, no! You're staying right here," Sawyer took hold of me and tugged me back into the room.
"Sawyer's right. Cade and Lance are the best at what they do, which is protect this family, legally. I can tell you there's no one better to represent you to get Tempy back," Madeline agreed.
"I'm not family," I whispered as I dropped into a chair. I'm not a Bradford. Not yet, if Zane gets his way, not ever.
"Yes, you are!" Emma announced as she walked in with Hunter by her side. "I was afraid of this happening. I planned, just in case it happened. Georgia taught me to never be caught off guard by anyone or anything. You are in good hands."
"She's my baby, not yours. You don't understand..."
"I do! Better than you think. And to address your first statement, family isn't made from blood. It's made up of love from the people who are important to you and who love you. You and Tempy are important to Bradford, to Lowe and Easton. You are family. You are a Bradford." Emma stated, kneeling in front of me and holding tight to my hands.
"I'm scared," I admitted as the first tear fell down my cheek. My throat feels raw and the words could barely seep out.
"I don't blame you. I am too. But we suck up the fear, use the anger and fight back. That's how we win. And we will win, sugar. I promise you that." Emma seems so confident about this. I don't know how she can be so calm and confident that we will beat this.
"Dad, did they say anything about getting her back tonight or what we need to do?" Bradford sat up, holding tight to the bedrail. He can barely sit up, he can't stand or walk out of here on his own. This family has other things to worry about.
"I should go, I should go to the police or the child services office. I have to get them to give her back," softly I told Emma I needed to go.
Bradford tried again to get out of bed only for Sawyer and Madeline to force him back into the bed. He's upset and hurting and in no shape to deal with this. I definitely need to go.
"Please keep me posted on his condition," I whispered to Madeline as I got up and walked to the door.
"Wait! Just wait, Holly! Mom, Dad, Grandma, can I talk to Holly alone for a minute?" He looked at his family then looked at me, his eyes pleading with me to stay.
Sawyer patted his son on the arm and nodded, "Don't say anything stupid that you'll regret." It sounded like there was something I didn't know and I wouldn't like in his statement.
Leaving us alone, they went out to the hallway where Emma said the rest of the family would be soon. Bradford waited for the door to close behind his mom before he patted the bed next to him.
"Sit with me please," he asked, obviously not used to asking for a woman to give him attention.
Sitting on the side of the bed, I kept my eyes on the door, waiting for someone else to come in with more news.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry this happened, Holly," he took my hand and kissed my palm. "We're going to get her back. I promise..."
"Don't! Please... you can't promise me that. I know you have good intentions and so does your family, but Zane got what he wanted. He took my baby and I have nothing left to lose now. He wanted to break me and he did. I have to try and save her. I don't want to hurt your family. I don't want him to. But I can't lose her." I explained my predicament and hoped Bradford understood.
