chapter 8

SUNDAY, 14 APRIL
07:00

I wake up, get ready for the day and pack my books. The weather is quite chilly even today so I am wearing a basic, black winter set with Forces.

I head to the study lounge and find Didi waiting for me. We take a seat on a little table in the corner of the end of the room. She is wearing sweats and my hoodie.

Didi: it is very warm and comfortable.
Me: I understand.

I say with furrowed brows and she giggles. She has a sweet little giggle that makes you smile.

Me: I will go get us some water.

I grab my phone and head to the tuckshop to buy water. It is still early in the morning so it is not so busy around here. Besides, most of the learners prefer studying in their dorms.

I get the water and on my way back, I bump into Kayla.

Kay: heading to the study lounge, I see?
Me: yes.
Kay: since when are you and Didi best friends?
Me: not that I owe you any explanation but pretty much, since you left her by herself at the quad on Friday without informing either of us of your whereabouts so basically, since you neglected your duty.
Kay: I saw her wearing your hoodie.
Me: I saw that too.

I say before walking away from her. This girl?

I get to the study lounge and find Didi scrolling on that one peaceful app that has no negativity but just beautiful pictures and inspiration.

She puts it down when I sit down. I hand her one of the bottles of water.

Didi: something odd just happened.
Me: what?
Didi: Kayla walked past me and said nothing.
Me: Kayla is not normal, Didi so never let her get under your skin. back to Life Sciences, what were your issues with the question papers?

We go trough the work together for a while before being joined by the boys 45 minutes later. We then continue studying together for two hours with no break.

Enzo: let us take a break now.
Me: no.
Kanyo: Nkazimulo is not the boss of me, I am taking a break.

He says, closing his books and heading outside for some fresh air.

Didi: I agree with them. let us take a short walk to clear our minds a little.
Enzo: I agree.
Me: Enzo, you will not even look at that book when we return.
Enzo: I will.
Me: I know you, Enzo.
Didi: he will.
Mpho: come on, man.
Me: okay.

Before we step out, an announcement is made that Didi needs to go to the office. We then take our walk and when we return, we find Didi waiting for us at the table.

Enzo: why did they call you?
Didi: my dad brought me some clothes and uniform.
Enzo: okay, girl. that means that you can return my boy's hoodie.
Didi: what?
Me: you feel cold, do you not?
Didi: I do.
Me: and you said it is warm?
Didi: I did.
Me: ignore Enzo. do like I do and pretend that he does not exist.
Enzo: seriously?

Everyone around the table keeps quiet and really ignores Enzo's existence.

MONDAY, 15 APRIL

During 6th period, an announcement is made for me to make my way to the office after placing my bags in the dorm. I do just that and head to the office.

I find my mom waiting for me there and apparently, we have some doctors appointment which I had no idea about.

Mom: let us go then.
Singh: okay, thank you.
Mom: thank you.

We exit the school and get in the car and off we go. My mom drives while we have light conversations here and there. I still do not understand why we are going to the doctor.

We get to this really nice building with calming trees with a cool breeze. We get in to the offices and we are directed by the receptionist to Dr. Songo's office. We get there and take our seats, this office does not really look like a regular doctor's office.

Songo: good afternoon, ma'am.
Mom: good afternoon.
Songo: Mr. Nkomo Junior.

She says before smiling at me.

Songo: are you well?
Me: yes.

I am confused!

Songo: mommy, how can I help you today?
Mom: I suspect that my son here is not attracted to females and I want him to know that I will accept him no matter what.
Me: so you are a therapist?
Songo: yes, I am your new family therapist.
Me: I am sorry but my mom and dad need you more than I do.
Mom: Nkazi!
Me: I am not gay, mama.
Mom: but I have never seen you with a girl.
Me: oh my days.
