TUESDAY, 09 JULY
Enzo and I reached boarding last night and the boys and I stayed up most of the night just catching up. We are currently walking to our quad because it is still early.
Kanyo: your lungs probably hurt from not seeing Didi for that long.
Mpho: his kidneys nearly collapsed.
Enzo: hey! Nkomo was barely surviving, can we not make a joke out of that?
They then all burst out laughing.
Me: you are really a bunch of idiots, fools.
Enzo: hey, look behind you.
I look behind me and see Didi walking towards us. She has short, curled knotless braids and her petite self looks so adorable in her winter tracksuit with sneakers which is what we are all wearing because it is compulsory during winter. She is also wearing a blue scarf which compliments our grey and white school tracksuit. Her tiny hands are in gloves and she is smiling from ear to ear as she walks towards us.
Didi is absolutely gorgeous and everything she wears or does on her hair suits her perfectly.
Didi: hey.
She says as she stands in front of us.
Enzo: good morning, Dids.
Mpho: how are you, doll?
Kanyo: we were just talking about you?
Didi: what about me?
Enzo: where were you?
Didi: at the other quad, Kay was giving me a side eye and gossiping with her friends so I did not feel so comfortable anymore.
Me: I will sort that out.
Didi: just leave it.
Kanyo: are you sure?
Me: whether she is sure or not, I will deal with okay, am I clear?
Enzo: yes, Mr Nkomo.
The bell rings and we head to class. Didi and I sit next to each other during fourth period which is English and I cannot help but keep stealing glances at her and each time I do, she smiles at me.
Over the holidays, I have learnt a lot about Didi. She is very sensitive and as a result, she tends to cry a lot. Didi crying is not a good thing because she is asthmatic so she could have a reaction and even begin to tremble. She is really funny, in her own cute and unique way. She has a sweet heart that loves easily but breaks just as easily so she should be handled with care.
I could say so many more great things about her but then I would end up writing a whole book about her. We spent quite some time together during the holidays, we would video call and voice call each other at any minor inconvenience. We would meet at parks just to blow off some steam and play ball.
*flashback
Me: throw it at me and I will show you how to do it.
Didi: okay.
She throws it at me and I dribble the ball a couple of times before aiming and shooting it into the net.
Didi: but that is not fair.
Me: why?
Didi: I am not as tall as you.
Me: it is not about height, Dids. just shoot and see.
She takes the ball from me, dribbles it twice, aims, shoots and misses.
Me: pick it up and try again.
She does as I say and misses.
Me: and we try again.
She picks it up, dribbles it twice, aims, shoots and it enters! Her jaw drops and she giggles. I hold out my arms and engulf her in a hug.
Didi: I did it!
Me: I told you that you could.
Didi: I am even better than you now.
Me: now, that is debatable.
