THURSDAY, 11 JULY
It is break and I am currently headed to Mrs Mons class to enquire about our upcoming assignment. I find Luke talking to Didi in the corridor. My heart drops and I do not why. Anyways, rules are that no one is allowed on the corridors during break time, especially the upstairs corridors unless supervised by an educator.
I feel my nose flare up as I walk towards them but I try to act calm.
Didi: hey, Thabi.
Me: you are not allowed to be here during break time, please move.
I say as I walk past them and straight to Mrs Mons class. I get to Mrs Mons class and she seems a bit busy.
Mrs Mons: Nkomo, come on. I actually was going to call you to my class later but since you are here, I have compiled some notes for you and Didi from our last lesson since you are the one assisting her in Life Sciences and they will be beneficial for your assignment.
Me: what about the assignment, ma'am?
Mrs Mons: you will receive it on Monday, it is 60 percent theory and 40 percent practical so you do not need to worry about that, just study the topics that I gave you last week.
Me: thank you.
Mrs Mons: you may leave now, Mr Nkomo.
Me: ma'am, ouch! you want me to get out of your face?
Mrs Mons: no offence to you but that would be delightful right now.
Me: all offence has been taken.
Mrs Mons: my apologies.
We both share a chuckle and I leave her class. Luke and Didi are not on the corridor anymore. Whatever is going on between them just rubs me the wrong way but I think I know Didi, she would never go for a guy like Lukhanyo.
I go to my quad and find the boys already having lunch.
Kanyo: Nkomo, have you seen Didi anywhere?
Me: I am good thanks and how are you, Kanyo?
Kanyo: where is Didi?
Me: somewhere in the school with Lukhanyo.
Enzo: what?
Me: guys, what's the plan for the vow renewal?
Enzo: are we not going to address the Lukhanyo and Didi issue?
Me: what for? Did is old enough to make her own decisions.
Kanyo: even when it's going to break her heart?
Me: whose heart is it?
They both look at each other, in pure confusion as they contemplate whether or not to answer me.
Mpho: hers.
Me: so why is it my responsibility?
Enzo: because you promised her dad-
I interject.
Me: I meant from bullies like Kay, not Lukhanyo. Didintle knows what she is doing. now, is this conversation going to end or should I just go to the library to study?
Enzo: chill, big man. the conversation can end.
Me: where are we going after break?
Kanyo: English.
Me: did you do the homework, Enzo?
Enzo: you know that I never do her homework. be serious, Nkomo.
We all, except for Enzo, burst out into fits of laughter. How is he telling me to be serious when he didn't do his homework?
Enzo: you are not funny, boys.
Me: no, you are though.
Enzo: whatever.
He is now upset and determined to not laugh with us. That is all nice until Luke and Didi walk past us. I just turn and look the other way, pretending to not see them and the boys catch the vibe and do the same thing.
