Avery's POV

"Care can you do my hair please?" I asked walking into her room wearing my flapper costume for the 1920's dance.

"Of course, I've waited for this day since you moved here," She squealed, "Sit."

I did as I was told and sat on the stool in front of her make up table. I was beginning to regret my choice in asking my cousin for her help. She pulled at my hair and pinned it in place where she saw fit. I didn't enjoy being a real life girls world but this was my first date with Kol I wouldn't to look at least the part for the dance.

Kol didn't go to our school he was older than me and out of school but seen as this was coming up I thought it would be nice to invite him. Elena was probably take Damon with her as well, and Kol's brother Klaus probably would turn up for Caroline.

"Hello again," He smiled at me as he came and sat at my table in the Grill.

"The fifth time this week I do believe," I chuckled putting down my book onto the table.

"I believe everything happens for a reason so these coincidents must mean something," He smiled softly.

"Well what does it mean then?" I asked just as Matt came over.

"Do you want anything else?" Matt questioned.

"No thank you, can I just have the bill please," I smiled softly.

He nodded before leaving me and Kol at our table.

"I'm not sure Avery," He stated with a small smile on his face.

Matt brought my bill over letting me pay for the couple of drinks I had drunk whilst being here to peacefully read. Once Matt left the table again with the money I stood up from it.

"Would you like to walk with me so we can carry on this conversation?" I questioned.

"Of course Avery," He chuckled standing up as well and following me out of the Grill and onto the street where I began to walk in a random direction that wouldn't lead me to anywhere specific, seen as their was no where I actually wanted to go.

"So Miss Forbes why was you sitting in the Grill on your own?" He asked.

"Everyone is busy and if I stay at home I have to listen to Caroline talk 'girl' with her friends. There's a dance at my school this evening so her and her friends are getting ready very early before they go home so their dates can pick them up," I shrugged.

I wasn't into dances, I had an outfit for this evening but I wasn't going. I would usually go to the regular dances we had at this school with Jeremy but he was going with Jaenelle, the girl he met at the ball over a week ago.

"Who are you going with?" He asked me.

"No one, I'm not going. My reliable 'date' ditched me for someone else, I don't mind I can catch up on sleep," I chuckled.

"Why would anyone chose someone over you?" He questioned.

"He was my best friend, neither of us could ever actually get a date so we'd go together. Now he has a date, I don't," I shrugged.

"I could go with you?" He smiled.

"You really don't have to, I'm pretty sure you've had enough high school dances," I smiled back.

"No I would love to go with you," He stated, "I insist."

"Thank you Kol, but it's a 1920's dance so you have to wear something from that era," I smiled knowing this wouldn't be that enjoyable but if he was there it would be more so.
