the storm was alive.

it howled through the empty streets, battering the pavement with merciless waves of rain. lightning cracked in the distance, momentarily illuminating the world in sharp, silver flashes before sinking back into darkness.

the streetlights flickered, blurred by the downpour, their glow barely cutting through the storm's relentless grip.

but sienna wasn't thinking about the storm.

she was thinking about the boy holding her hand.

matt's fingers curled tightly around hers, grounding her in a way she couldn't explain. his grip was firm, strong, like he was afraid she might slip away if he let go. he didn't say anything—didn't pull her closer or try to shield her from the rain.

but he didn't let go.

and that was enough.

for a moment, they just stood there, rain soaking them to the bone, their breath misting in the cold. sienna tilted her head back, letting the raindrops kiss her skin, closing her eyes. she should have been freezing.

but she wasn't.

because matt was still holding her hand.

then—before she could process the moment, before she could drown in the weight of everything left unsaid—matt moved.

a sudden, reckless tug.

sienna yelped as he pulled her forward. "matt—!"

but he didn't stop.
