The first thing Skye noticed was warmth.
Billie's arm was draped lazily over her waist, her breath soft against the back of her neck. The early morning sun peeked through the curtains, casting golden streaks across the bed. The whole world outside felt distant, muted, as if time had slowed down just for them.
She blinked sleepily but didn’t want to move. Not when she was cocooned in this moment, in this bed, wrapped in Billie's arms.
Skye exhaled softly, pressing back against Billie's body. She could feel every rise and fall of her breathing, the steady rhythm of her heart. Billie was real, right here, holding her like she was something precious.
A sleepy groan rumbled against her shoulder. “Mmm. Morning already?”
Skye smiled, tilting her head slightly. “Yeah.”
Billie's grip tightened around her waist as she nuzzled closer. “No. Too early. Stay.”
She laughed quietly. “We have things to do today.”
Billie sighed dramatically. “Ugh. Responsibilities. Gross.”
Skye turned in Billie's arms, finally facing her. Billie’s eyes were still heavy with sleep, her messy blonde hair sticking up in different directions. It was unfair how effortlessly beautiful she looked.
"You always wake up this grumpy?" Skye teased, brushing a stray strand of hair from Billie's forehead.
Billie smirked, eyes still half-lidded. "Only when I have to wake up without you."
Heat bloomed in Skye's chest, but she rolled her eyes to cover it. "You're so dramatic."
Billie hummed, tracing lazy circles on Skye’s back. “And you love it.”
Skye bit her lip, pretending to think. “Mmm… I guess you’re alright.”
Billie gasped in fake offense. “Alright?”
“I mean…” Skye teased, reaching up to run her fingers through Billie’s soft hair, “you have your moments.”
Billie chuckled, leaning into her touch. "Oh yeah? Like what?"
Skye thought for a second, then smiled. "Like when you hum in your sleep. Or when you get all soft after a long day. Or when you share the last bite of your food with me even though you claim you don’t share food."
Billie groaned. "Ugh. You caught me."
Skye giggled. "Yup."
Billie grinned, pressing a lingering kiss to her forehead. "I’d give you everything, you know."
Skye’s heart stuttered, and she ducked her head, feeling her cheeks heat up. Billie always had a way of making her feel like the most important thing in the world.
"You're blushing," Billie teased, gently tilting Skye’s chin up. "That's cute."
Skye rolled her eyes. "Shut up."
Billie laughed but pulled her closer. “You make it too easy.”
For a while, they just lay there, wrapped up in each other, listening to the quiet. The morning was slow, lazy, perfect.
“You know,” Billie mused after a moment, “if I could, I’d keep you in bed all day.”
Skye arched a brow. “Oh? And do what?”
“Talk. Nap. Kiss you until you're sick of me.”
She pretended to think. “Mmm… I don’t think I could ever get sick of you.”
That earned her a grin before Billie cupped her cheek, thumb brushing over her bottom lip. Billie always had this way of looking at her like she was the only thing in the universe that mattered.
Skye didn’t get to think much after that because Billie kissed her.
It was slow, sweet, like the world wasn’t in a rush. Billie kissed like she had all the time in the world, like she was memorizing every inch of her lips.
Skye melted into it, hands slipping into Billie’s hair, pulling her closer. The kiss deepened, lazy and intoxicating. Billie’s hands explored her back, her sides, like she was trying to learn her by touch alone.
When they finally broke apart, Billie rested their foreheads together, her breathing slightly uneven.
"You taste like strawberries," Billie murmured.
Skye giggled. "That’s because you ate all the strawberries last night and left me with, like, three."
Billie chuckled, pressing another kiss to her nose. "I'll buy you more."
Skye rolled her eyes playfully. "You say that every time."
"And yet you still let me steal them."
She huffed but snuggled deeper into Billie’s chest, feeling the steady rhythm of her heartbeat. Billie’s arms wrapped securely around her, like she was afraid to let go.
After a moment, Billie spoke again, softer this time. “Hey.”
Skye tilted her head up. “Yeah?”
Billie looked at her for a long moment, then whispered, “I love you.”
The words settled between them, warm and certain. Skye’s heart fluttered, and she smiled, reaching up to brush her fingers along Billie’s jaw.
“I love you too.”
Billie exhaled, like she’d been holding her breath. She pulled Skye impossibly closer, pressing gentle kisses along her temple, her cheek, the tip of her nose.
"Can we just stay like this for a little longer?" Skye whispered.
Billie's arms tightened around her. "For as long as you want, baby."
And in that moment, nothing else mattered.
