The one thing I didn't miss about Santa Carla was the heat. Even sitting here with the AC in the shack at full blast wearing tank tops and booty shorts wasn't enough. Watching as Jason chased some slutty campers around Crystal Lake we sat sweating. The heat felt like it would numb our brains to the point where they'd melt. Even with the screaming teens on the screen, I couldn't get the images of me and David cuddling. His skin was cool even on the hottest days of summer. I don't know how he managed it. The other day it put me to sleep. Lilly stands up with a huff. "Let's do something,"

"Like what?" Josh groans "It's like satans ass out there,"

"Night surfing" she suggests. I took that as my cue to go home. I get up and make my way out. "Where are you going, Rory?"

"Home, there is no way in hell I'm going night surfing,"

"No you have to come it won't be the same without you, you don't have to surf just get in the water a little bit," she begs.

"Oh, I doubt I'd go in at all," I try not to give in but her puppy dog eyes have yet to be defeated. "Fine I'll go," I smile her squeal of joy making me hope I won't regret this decision. "but I'm not getting in the breeze will be good enough for me." I start to grab my things. "I'll meet you guys there" I leave with threats of them showing up to take me if I'm not there in an hour. I drive to my place and get a beach bag ready. I put on a one-piece black swimsuit with a strap that ties around the back of my neck. I cover myself with an old oversized Bettyboop tee. I make sure I have everything I need; a blanket and a good book.

I wasn't expecting there to be a bunch of people due to the sun having been down an hour now but I was mistaken. It seemed like all the teens who were out on break had the same idea we did. I find the group and help set up our area watching as they run leaving me to sit on the blanket. I pull out a light that attaches to the book to help read. It was a romance novel. It is extremely cheesy and not my usual read but I am in the mood for being a hopeless romantic. I felt a chill run across me which I chalked up to the breeze of the waves. Looking up to see my friends having the time of their lives. What I didn't realize was David sitting next to me. I glance over shrieking leaping back five feet. He laughs pulling out a cigarette. I slap his arm with my book.

"The fuck dude!" I exclaim "How long have you just been sitting here?" he looks at the watch on his wrist.

"Bout' ten minutes,"

"I didn't hear you come up. What are you doing here?"

"Could ask you the same?" he leans back taking a long drag of the cigarette.

"Night surfing," I roll my eyes "Not my idea," I pull the shirt down more realizing I am reveling more than I would've liked. "Where are the guys?"

"Out getting food, I noticed you here decided to come say hi" He kicks off his boots. At the moment he looked kinda like a greaser from every shitty depiction of the 50s. A white short sleeve shirt with jeans hair slicked back. It showed off his broad shoulders and thick arms. "There isn't a monster out in the water you know, not really," He puts the bud of the now-finished cigarette out. "Let's go swim." I raise an eyebrow.

"You aren't in swim attire" I point out. he stands up shrugging. I felt my chest tighten with fear. The thought of going in the water was paralyzing. "I don't know," He rolls his eyes and grabs my arm forcing me to stand up. "David wait I'm serious,"

"So am I," he starts leading us to the water the second the cold water hits me I freeze in place. "come on," he urges. I shake my head.

"I can't," I start trembling as fear overtakes me.

"I won't let anything happen," He was trying his best to be patient I could tell. I wanted to go in the water with him. The fear wouldn't let me. I hold out my pinky and he gives a confused expression.
