A/N: Hey, so......sorry for not posting in a bit. Been dealing with EXTREME writer's block and some mental health problems on top of that, but here I am. I really am sorry for keeping ya'll waiting. I'm going to try to post more now that this fic is almost over! But fear not, this is book one of possibly two, or three if I come up with an idea for a third installment.

I wake up to my alarm signaling me that I have to get up for work. It has been a few weeks, and the investigation is just now getting underway. They had Mom come by the other day to take in some information. They are interviewing people who could've seen. Even though David said things would be okay, I couldn't help but feel nervous. What if someone did see them? What if there is a loose end they forgot? If this is what it's going to be like to be a vampire, then I don't know how I'm going to handle it. Things aren't as easy as they were back in the '80s or even before then, thanks to advancements in fields like forensic science. However, the police here are shit.

As I am about to leave, Mom stops me. "Hey Rory, I was wondering if you wanted to come have a mommy-daughter day with me tomorrow."

"Yeah, that would be amazing." I smile. "Do you want to grab dinner?"

"Oh no, I just ate, but you have a good night at work, okay, sweetie." She kisses me on the cheek before I head out. Once at the shop, I start setting up my area. Nat comes in.

"Mind if I grab a drink?" She asks, I nod, "So how are things with lover boy?"

"They are going great. Why do you ask?"

"No reason, just trying to start up a conversation. Ya'll are cute." She smiles. The ding of the front door alerts us to start our night. The client requested music, which was fine by me. I didn't feel like having a conversation. By the time our break rolled around, I was already spent. With the stress of everything that's been going on, I haven't been able to sleep well. The door chimes, and David comes in for our nightly chill shesh. He brought both me and Nat something to eat. She thanks him. "You'd better keep him," She half-jokes. When we get into the room, I lock the door.

"They are starting the investigation." He raises his brow at me.

"So?"

"I'm just antsy about it," I admit. "What if." He stops me by putting a chip to my lips, which I take.

"Stop that, I told you it's okay. Why can't you just believe me?" I roll my eyes.

"I've never had to go through something like this, okay? Excuse me for being worried. Is it always this worrying?"

"Nope," he says, sitting back in the chair. "I never really worried about getting caught. What are they gonna do, huh, fight us?" I nod, trying not to spiral. "This is really bugging you, isn't it?" I nod. He places his hands on my upper arms and rubs them. "Everything is going to be okay, babe. I promise. You have anything going on after this, maybe I can take your mind off things." He kisses my neck, smirking. I feel his sharp canines graze my jaw. I try to bite back the smile, but it's no use.

"I have to go to sleep after work. Mom and I have plans tomorrow." He lets out a huff, standing up straight.

"You're no fun."

"You can come sleep with me if you want." He looks at me, very amused. "Not like that, perv."

"What? I wasn't thinking that. You're the one whose mind is in the gutter."
