Bella's POV
Ethan flashed a bright grin. "Heyy, sisoo!" Beside him, Matteo beamed with excitement, while Xavier and Xander lingered behind, their faces a stark contrast to the others. Xander, in particular, looked like he'd rather be anywhere else.
"What's with the fanfare?" I asked, my tone flat.
Ethan's grin faltered. "Uh, nothing. Just checking on you."
His eyes reflected a hint of hurt, and for a moment, I wondered if I'd been too harsh. But I pushed the thought aside. Emotions are weaknesses, and attachments are liabilities.
"I'm not a child who needs to babysit," I said bluntly.
Ethan's face fell, and he mumbled, "Uh, okay..." before beating a hasty retreat with the others.
"I'm heading to the washroom," I announced, standing up. "I'll be right back." As I walked towards the washroom, I did my business and washed my hands. Just then, the bell rang, signaling the end of recess. I decided to head to my next class.
As I navigated the corridor, searching for the classroom, I stumbled upon a commotion in the corner. A group of students had gathered, their faces filled with excitement. I wondered what was going on, but I chose to ignore it.
Just then, a faint, painful voice pierced the air. "Please...stop..." It was a girl's voice, and it was coming from the center of the group. My curiosity got the better of me, and I pushed my way through the students.
What I saw made my blood boil. Henry was beating a girl mercilessly. She looked like she was on the verge of passing out. I was shocked that no one was intervening, and instead, they seemed to be enjoying the drama.
I stepped forward, my voice firm. "Stop it, Henry. Why are you beating her?"
Henry's smile was laced with condescension. "Oh, little doll, don't interfere." He winked at me, his grip on the girl's throat tightening.
His words and actions only fueled my anger. My jaw clenched, fists tightened, and eyes blazed with fury. "Last chance, Henry. Leave. Her."
Henry chuckled, releasing his grip on the girl's throat, only to fist her hair instead. "Aww, Jesus, I'm shaking in my boots," he mocked.
I took slow, deliberate steps towards him. "You've been warned."
With a swift punch, I connected with his face. The force of the blow made him release the girl's hair, and he stumbled back, clutching his jaw.
His eyes blazed with rage, but I stood unfazed. "You little piece of shit," he snarled, throwing a punch that I easily dodged.
I twisted his hand behind his back, and he retaliated by grabbing my hair. I winced, but my resolve didn't waver. With a swift kick, I took him down, striking his stomach twice before pinning him to the ground.
My grip on his throat tightened, blocking his airway. "Don't think you can outsmart me, Henry," I growled. "If you bully anyone again, the consequences will be severe."
