Chapter Two

I looked at the school map, trying to figure out which way it was supposed to be.

I eventually figured it out, my first classroom was the first door on the right side of the hallway, or as everyone called it, "Freshman Hall".

Fantastic.

I walked in, and found one of my other best friends, Payton. She seen me as soon as I walked in and screamed my name and waved for me to come sit behind her, as she saved me a seat behind her.

I ran to her and she turned around as we basically did what any freshman teenage girl would do on the first day of any school year... we GOSSIPED! We talked about many things, mostly the summer, because she was out the town all summer visiting family in Ohio. I told her what I did all summer, which was basically just play games on my computer and did nothing else really, I went swimming like twice, and it rained like everyday over the summer here, and I told her that and she stuck her tongue out in disgust.

I laughed. I missed my friend Payton. She's really funny, pretty, and cool.

My teacher walked in the classroom.

Everyone got quiet and sat down as quick as they could. I just sat there confused.

"My name is Ms. Smith. Welcome to English 9. I will hand you a syllabus for my class, and what you'll need for my class."

Everyone obeyed and sat quietly, as we all watched each other's motions, since we didn't really know anyone in there at all.

When Ms. Smith got to the row Payton and I sat on, she stared at us, like she already knew us, almost.

I lowered my head quickly, in shyness, and she walked away to the next row.

I looked at all the boys in here, and there was one who was staring at me.

As I looked at him, he stared deeply, as if he had some type of secret that he wanted to tell me, but couldn't. I was interested in him, but as I tried to talk to him that day, it was like he almost ignored me. So, eventually, I stopped trying, then he kind of backed off a little, so I didn't worry about it the rest of the day.

The rest of the day kind of flew by, except for lunch, because lunch was the worst part of the day, it wasn't like middle school where you sit with your class at assigned tables and where you skip seats in between each person, or have the red cup at the end of the table indicating you can't talk until the red cup is raised after a certain amount of time. No. This was different, too different. You sat with anyone you knew, if you could get to an empty table in time, with empty chairs. It was like a jungle basically.

I grabbed my friend's arm in fright as I watched everyone else talking to people they knew, and my friend and I just stood there scanning the cafeteria for an empty table. We searched for what felt like forever, but then I spotted one, and shouted at her, "Hey! I found one! Let's go!"

I grabbed her wrist and basically dragged her across the cafeteria to the table I found. Lunch was not long at all, it was like twenty minutes, and I didn't get to finish my chips, which was a complete bummer!

We went back to class and finished out the day.

I had to ride the bus home, and as soon as I got on the bus, I found myself having a hard time finding an empty seat. I found one, kind of near the back, and I don't like the back because of all the rude, loud, obnoxious people, but if I wanted a seat to myself, I had to sacrifice something. So, I sat.

I rested my head against the back of the seat and the window, and started to doze off.

Eventually, I unfortunately fell asleep, but then the bus, I'm assuming, went over some kind of speed bump, and I jumped like two feet out of my seat and I woke right up.

My stop came, and I got off the bus as fast as I could, self conscious because I was sweating and I was kind of scared I might have something on my bottom area, so I ran off the bus as fast and as smoothly as possible and walked up the hill to my grandmother's house in the agonizing summer heat. I reached my grandmother's home and used my key to open the door, and right when I was expecting to lay on the couch for a nap, my grandmother called me upstairs, "Britt! Come here! Tell me about your first day of high school!"

I groaned in pain and aggravation because I was so tired. I had to drag myself up the stairs and into the room my grandmother was in, just to sit down in an old, uncomfortable chair and talk for what seemed like hours, but was really only twenty-five minutes.

She finished talking to me, as she caught on that I was tired and aggravated from a hard and long day, so she let me go, and I went to take a nap immediately.

I fell asleep on the guest bed upstairs, I'm assuming, because that's where I woke up.

My mom picked me up at around eight or eight-thirty that night, and I did my homework at my house, and took a shower, and went to bed, because my mind and body couldn't take anymore.

My first day was just a wreck.
