Chapter Three

As I walked into the double doors again the next day, all that was on my mind was the boy from my English class the previous day.

He was tall, but not too tall, he has kind of long-ish-short shaggy dark brown, almost black, hair. His eyes were low, as if he was getting no sleep at home, and he had no facial expression, as if he were almost depressed.

He was very cute, don't get me wrong, but he seemed kind of like he was suicidal, almost.

Plus, my mom didn't really let me date at this age because of all the guys that broke her heart... she didn't want the same thing for me, especially not at the beginning of my high school years.

Well, the same thing happened today in English.

I stared at him, and he was already staring at me.

I felt myself blush, but I covered it up quickly by turning my head and facing the front of the classroom.

I felt a giggle escape, making me blush even more.

Payton turned around and asked me, "What's wrong with you?", with a tiny grin.

"Nothing," I spat out to her in the quickest way I think I've ever spoken.

She shook her head with a smirk on her face and turned back around.

I looked across the room at him, but this time, he wasn't staring at me.

I sat and stared at him, wondering every possible thing about him; his name, what he likes to do, his favorite color, and his favorite food, just everything. I was absolutely curious, and it was driving me insane. I wanted to know everything about him.

He was an interest of mine the entire upcoming semester.

I was hoping one of us would speak up, and eventually start talking to each other, but nothing.

~~~ Skip To December ~~~
The entire semester passed and neither one of us said anything to each other, except once.
It was around the end of the semester, December, it was the last week before school let out before Christmas break, and my English class decided to do a project of some sort, where we had to get cheap gifts. It was called "The Gift Exchange," and my teacher made it seem like it was related to a story we read in class, which it did relate, but it was a really fun thing to do.
We had to write our names on a piece of paper and put it in a bowl.
We did so.
Around five minutes later, my teacher shook the bowl and made sure all the names were mixed up thoroughly, then she came back around and let us pick a name.
I got Payton's name.
The mysterious guy got my name.
We had to have our gifts in by the end of the week.
I was super excited to see what he was getting me.
He walked up to me at the end of the class period and asked, "You like socks, right?"
I felt flustered and happy, but nodded, because I couldn't talk.
"O.K., good."
He walked away, and I felt absolutely insanely happy.
He talked to me.
I couldn't stop smiling walking down the hallway, and I felt people staring at me when I was walking, so I hid my face behind my books until I entered my next class.
I ran to my seat in the middle of the room and sat.
I thought about him the entire day.
He was like a leech, a good one of course.
But, seriously! I couldn't stop thinking about him. It was like he planted something in my brain while I was sleeping in class the week before, I think I was starting to like him, I just wasn't sure because I didn't know what it felt like to really have a crush.
It was an amazing feeling, so I went home, wide awake [for once], with a smile on my face.
My mom was a little worried, but I assured her, I was okay.
She brushed it off her shoulders and left me alone.
I couldn't get this boy off of my mind.
He was infectious.
I was falling in love.
I just didn't know it.
Neither did he.
