My mother woke me up with the usual, "Britt! Honey! Wake up! It's the first day of high school! Aren't you excited!? Get up!"
I groaned in aggravation as I rolled over onto my stomach and shoved my face deep into my pillow.
My mother barged into my room when she heard no reply from me and pulled my covers completely off my body and shook me vigorously until I gave in and sat up.
She told me, "Get up. I'm not playing this year, I'm not fighting you and your brothers to get you up this year, so get up! Now!"
I rolled my eyes once she was turned around and out of my bedroom.
I sat there for a moment, worrying about what to wear on my first day and who would be in my classes. But, most of all, I was more worried about lunch. Lunch was on my mind all day until it actually came.
The drive to school was absolutely dreadful.
When my mom pulled up to the school, she looked over at me and said to me, "Have a great day! I love you!"
I looked at her, pleading with my facial expressions that I could possibly just stay out the first day, she didn't buy it when I tried to play sick.
I got out anyway, and walked slowly to the front entrance and stopped at the big green doors. I was scared to walk inside, afraid of who would be walking around and what the principal looked like, or how mean the teachers and staff were.
I opened the door with as much force as possible; they were heavier than I thought. I got inside and was still shocked at how big this place was compared to my middle school.
I asked where I should go. The lady I talked to explained to me, "If you're eating breakfast, go to the cafeteria straight ahead, if not, go left to the auditorium and have a seat."
She said it nicely, but sounded like she was aggravated to be there again this year, so I turned slowly and looked at the big double doors and walked slowly debating in my head if I should go to the office to call my mom to come get me and explain that I'm not ready or lie and tell her I started my period.
But, I needed to do this, because my mom had to work anyway and her manager was trying to get her fired, so if she didn't go or showed up late, she would go home without a job, so I stayed.
I walked into the auditorium and it felt like everyone's eyes glued to me. I felt my face turning red as I looked for my best friend, Katie, that I texted last night to meet me at a certain time so we can sit together today. I found her eventually, on the opposite side of where I was looking. I basically ran to her and hugged her!
I finally sat down, and about twenty minutes later, a bell rang.
*Ring, ring, ring, ring, ring*
Suddenly, it was like a fight broke out; that's how fast everyone got up.
You could tell who was freshman and who weren't because all the freshman pulled out the school map. I, unfortunately, was one of them.
Here goes nothin'.
Freshman year, here we go.
