Changkyun did tend to reflect on how, whilst it was regular to people around his age to spend their Friday evenings at a bar, it was not usual for them to have documents sprawled in front of them, with the work phone still buzzing even after the regular 5pm.
But no, to Changkyun, this was peace: Sitting in a luxurious hotel bar, the place being in mellow, dark tones and very soothing to the eye; a pianist in the corner playing a gentle, jazzy rhythm on the grand piano; the case papers being in chronological order, with markers set on what needed to get double checked. And whiskey on the rocks. With a little bit of ice.
This evening, however, those several buzzes of the phone were what distraught that peace more than ever and, as much as Changkyun hoped the bar's atmosphere could lull his mind to focus properly on his work after a hectic day of his team freaking out about Changkyun's apprehensive case, his mood continued to be a rainstorm and he found himself slumped against the documents, hand buried in his dark hair locks.
"No, listen, Minhyuk, he can't just refuse to give the statement, he has already been appointed to appear in front of the judge."
The ice had melted and dilated his whiskey during the time Changkyun spent on the several phone calls, leaving just a bland aftertaste when the man gulped the rest of the thing in one go. There was no chance he could continue to ruin his favourite place by the sour aura he was surely emitting.
"Oh, he is scared? He is refusing to testify because he is scared?" With the decision to leave the bar for the evening, Changkyun packed everything back in his black, leather portfolio and cued for the exit, phone tight to his ear. "You know what is scary? Scary is when the person, OR, OR, in our case, THE GANG OF ABSOLUTE BULLDOGS you are scared of, find out either way that you had intentions to go against them. And then you wake up at the bottom of a blood bath, with all but one tooth pulled out of you. And you will be hung by that one tooth in front of those bulldogs, who will eat. you. alive."
"You know, your imagination is giving a very vivid picture of the opposite party being actual bulldogs and now even I fear for my life, " the voice on the other end replied and gave a nervous chuckle. Changkyun felt it to his bone, though it could have also been the chilly may evening, the summer time rolling around in way too slow steps. Having left the bar, Changkyun went down one of the streets, not caring which direction he was heading, if it meant he could clear his mind before tomorrow's court appearance.
After a deep, calm exhale, Changkyun proceeded in his professional voice that contained less to zero outbursts. "Look. Get him to meet us tomorrow morning in the office, the trial doesn't start till three. He needs to understand that, even if he refuses to share what he knows publically, his ass has already become a huge target, which his former boss will hunt down one way or another. And yet, if he does work with us, we will do everything in our power to unscrew him and keep him safe. Bad guys won't get to him."
