"The mall, The elf and The Santa Claus with glitter snow covered eyebrows"
Kevin was sure if he jingled the little bells attached on the felted, green slippers together with the bell attached at the end of his equally green, pointy hat, he could manage the whole chorus of "Let it snow", that would remix into the beginning of "Last christmas".
This year, Santa did lose one of his elves. Lost it between the large halls of "Super Yuppers Mall". And whilst a 10 hour shift could be considered modern day slavery, that the elves back at the North Pole go through, at least Kevin was getting paid for each of those hours.
To be frank, it was one of his cowork-elfs, Chanhee, who recounted the "the things i do for money" mantra. Kevin enjoyed being a mall elf. For students such as him, this December hustle truly was easy money. Not only would the mall paid him handsomely to dance a little dance thrice a day and guide kids to take a picture with Santa Claus, but also... he could do a little dance thrice a day and guide kids to take a picture with Santa Claus!!!
What do you mean it's not the easiest and most perfect job?
With elf-like features on his face and cute, as told by his other cowork-elf (and best friend) Jacob, brown hair locks coming out of his hat, and falling around his fake, pointy ears, Kevin was looking as dapper as on the very first day of this job. It was hitting the beginning of the second week in December and as crowds surfing through the mall were getting bigger, Chanhee's morning coffee cups went from 'medium' to 'large'.
Although it was still half an hour before they needed to be all bright and jolly, Kevin was already in his neat, green trousers and checking himself out in the mirror, powdering some last blush to his cheeks. The backdrop house for the whole "Photo with Santa Claus" corner served as the staff changing and break room, with even the mall providing a kettle for tea and instant noodles elves mostly survived off.
Again, what a lovely environment for a December hustle.
The door of the small house opened and Jacob stepped in, taking off his winter jacket with a huff, "Morning. Manager called. Appearently, Mr. Jo got so wasted yesterday, he is now barfing all morning and can't come. The other Santa is not in the city today."
"Damn... "
That was all Kevin had to say. That did not come by surprise, the old bastard sometimes reeked of stuff that would ruin the Christmas miracle for every Santa Claus loving child.
"Will there be a replacement Santa today then? Or do we just offer ourselves as a bootleg version for the big man?" Kevin asked, unwrapping his breakfast sandwich, as Jacob changed into the elf attire.
