*FLASHBACK*
When I wake up, I'm in a soft bed, surrounded by warm light. The air smells sweet, like flowers and sunshine. I blink a few times, trying to make sense of where I am. The memories of the old man flood back, and I sit up quickly, my heart racing.
"Easy there, little one," a gentle voice says. I turn to see Abhi sitting in a chair beside me, his smile still bright and reassuring. "You're safe now. You're in my home."
"Home?" I whisper, still feeling a bit dazed. "What happened?"
"You were in trouble, but I found you just in time," he explains, his voice calm and soothing. "That man won't hurt you anymore. I promise."
I look around the room, taking in the soft pastel colors and the cozy decorations. It feels safe here, but I can't shake the fear that still lingers in my chest. "Where's my mumma and papa?" I ask, my voice trembling.
"They're looking for you," Abhi assures me. "I called them as soon as I got you out of there. They'll be here soon."
I nod, but the worry doesn't leave me. What if they don't find me? What if that man comes back? I pull the blanket tighter around me, seeking comfort in its warmth.
"Hey," Abhi says softly, noticing my distress. "Do you want to talk about it? Or maybe we can do something fun to take your mind off things?"
I shake my head, feeling too overwhelmed. "I just want my mumma."
"I understand," he replies, his expression softening. "But while we wait, how about I tell you a story? It might help you feel a little better."
I look at him, curiosity piqued despite my fear. "A story?"
"Yeah! A magical one," he says, his eyes sparkling. "Once upon a time, in a land far away, there was a brave little bunny who had to face a scary monster..."
As he begins to weave his tale, I find myself getting lost in his words. The images he paints are vivid and enchanting, and for a moment, I forget about the darkness that had surrounded me. I can almost see the brave bunny hopping through the fields, facing challenges with courage.
"...and just when it seemed all hope was lost, the bunny remembered the magic of friendship," Abhi continues, his voice steady and warm. "With the help of his friends, he was able to defeat the monster and bring peace back to the land."
I smile at the thought, feeling a flicker of hope ignite within me. "Did the bunny find his family again?" I ask, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Of course," Abhi replies, his smile widening. "Family always finds a way back to each other, no matter what."
Just then, I hear a familiar voice calling my name, and my heart leaps. "Chiya! Chiya, where are you?" It's my mumma!
"See? They're here!" Abhi exclaims, his excitement infectious.
I jump out of bed, my heart racing with joy and relief. I rush to the door, flinging it open, and there they are—my mumma and papa, looking frantic but relieved to see me.
"Chiya!" Mumma cries, rushing forward to scoop me into her arms. I bury my face in her shoulder, feeling safe and loved.
"I was so scared, mumma!" I sob, clinging to her tightly.
"I know, sweetheart. I'm so sorry," she whispers, her voice trembling with emotion. "But you're safe now. We're together again."
As I look back at Abhi, he gives me a reassuring nod, and I realize that even in the darkest moments, there can be light and kindness. I may have faced something terrifying, but I also found a friend who helped me through it.
"Thank you, Abhi," I say softly, my heart full of gratitude.
He smiles back, and I know I'll carry this moment with me forever—a reminder that even in the face of fear, there is always hope.
