Someone Like You

You smiled softly at the newly married couple. Percy and Annabeth stood close together and danced. (More rather swayed along to the music.) Everybody had been waiting for this moment. Which means everybody but you; sure you were happy for the couple and truly smiled as you watched the couple, but deep inside you felt it hurting. You'd always imagined how it was Percy and you, standing there.

Percy and you dated before Annabeth came into the picture. You slowly drifted apart, but you didn't blame anything on her. It was meant to happen sometime, right? You couldn't help but notice how he smiled a lot more when he was with her too. And you felt kinda guilty. He never told you when anything about you bothered him. He sometimes just became silent and stoic, which was very unlike him.

Everybody started to settle down and talk around. You weren't invited, you didn't really expect an invitation since you hadn't seen them in a whole while, but Piper told you how Percy proposed and they were getting married. She told you were the reception would be. It was outside since it was a nice day, so you could just watch from afar, close to the small trail, in the park, which you did.

Deep inside, beside the hurt, you hoped Percy would spot you and understand he still meant a lot to you, even after all this time. And your little came true, not long after. Percy looked around and stopped when he saw you, leaning against an old oak tree. His eyes widened before he turned his attention back to Annabeth. It looked like he whispered something to her, and he must've, because she looked up and spotted you. Her eyes widened as well, as you smiled at her. She nodded slowly to Percy and pulled out of his grip.

You started walking away, when you grasped what was happening. You heard running steps behind you and soon after you felt a warm and grab your wrist, making you stand still. You stood like that for some time, until the hand on your wrist let go again. When you turned around, sea-green eyes were the first thing that caught your sight.

"Perseus go back to your bride," you said sternly.

"Why are you here?" He asked, ignoring your demand. You sighed and looked off to the side, eyeing the clear lake and the sun's reflection in it.

"I wanted to see how it all went, nothing else," you murmured. It wasn't a lie, but it wasn't the complete truth either. Looking back at Percy, you bit your lip when you saw his eyes were narrowed. He closed his eyes and sighed.

"I'm just gonna ignore the fact, that I know there's more to it," he answered. He sounded tired, and you were pretty sure he didn't feel like dealing with you right now. Psh, like he did before.

"Just... just go back, Percy," you said slowly and turned your back to him, about to walk away again, when he once again grabbed your wrist. "Seriously Percy, let go," you demanded.

"I'm sorry," he whispered. You whipped around and looked him in the eyes.

"For what, exactly?" That came out more bitched than you meant to, but it was too late to take it back. Your face didn't match your tone, as you looked confused and slightly hurt.

"For all the pain I've caused you," he said. A tear made its way down his cheek. You smiled softly at him and brushed it away with your thumb, quickly pulling it away, remembering another girl had his heart.

"It's been years, I think I'll do," you said. Sure thing you still had feelings bubbling inside of you, when thinking of the good times you two had, but thinking back in general didn't hurt as much as it did before. Percy nodded slowly and let go of your wrist.

"I'll go back now, but before I do, just let me-" he cut himself off and pulled you into a bone-crushing hug. You hugged back just as tightly, not wanting to let go. You both pulled away at the same time, gazes meeting,, before he nodded softly.

"I wish you the best in your future," you whispered, feeling the tears come.

"You too," he said. He sent a sad smile your way, before turning around and walking back.
