A Turn Of Events

Kagome's POV

When they say fancy, they mean fancy. The restaurant was inside a luxurious hotel, connecting to a beautiful ballroom. The tables weren't like ours in our restaurant, they had lined table clothes that I noticed had intricate patterns sewed around the edges. The chairs looked to be made of very expensive wood and the dishes looked like very valuable china and silverware. I stared around in wonder, taking in my surroundings.

Never would I have imagined that I would be in such a place after I left. Never would I have imagined that I would be wearing a beautiful red dress with very caring friends. I began to smile a wide smile as I truly believed that my life was becoming better and better. My heart still ached for what happened, but I was finally getting over the past and accepting my future without my friends, my family, and Him.

"Kagome? Kagome? KAGGGOOOOOMAAAAAA?!" I pulled out of my deep thinking and admiring, and stared at an amused Jack.

"What?" I asked confused at a chuckling Heidi and Mike.

"You were so out of it, with your staring, that you started drooling." He laughed.

I felt my cheeks heat up as a blush colored my face. I didn't mean to gawk, and I began to grow self conscious. I've never been to things like this, but they all have. I felt like an outsider. I looked to Jack to see the amusement turn into warmth and I couldn't help but smile as the outsider feeling evaporated.

"Come on, Kagome. Tonight is going to be fun and I swear you'll love it." Jack said tangling his arm in mine and leading me over to the fancy table.

Inuyasha's POV

It felt like all the breath in my body was knocked out. She was devastatingly beautiful. I stared at her through the window by her bed room. At first I came to the wrong room, catching the Heidi woman naked. I knew both Sota and I cheeks’ were red as we quickly move. I was hoping when we got to the window she would be fully clothed. I didn't want to be tempted to charge in and grab her. Only instead of naked, she was wearing an ensemble that, as I said before, knocked my breath away.

"KAGOME? THE GUYS ARE HERE! ARE YOU READY YET?" The Heidi woman screamed up at her.

"IN A MINUTE!" Kagome yelled back. Right before she walked out the room she sprayed some stuff on her that smelled weird. I felt my nose crinkle up as the scent hit me. Either it was too sweet or too much, maybe the second reason. She then applied some clear stuff onto her plump lips, making them shine bright, and then headed out the door.

I grabbed the kid and quickly rushed to the front of the house, not wanting to let her out of my sight for the least second, especially in that dress. Her in that dress was truly amazing and I know that it's something she would've never wore around the Feudal Era.

The dress hugged every curve Kagome had gained. It showed a lot of skin since it only tied up around one of her shoulders. He back was showing and her chest was hugged perfectly. It took me nearly every ounce of strength I had NOT to go down there and rip Jack's head off when he grabbed her hand.

He smiled down at her and she smiled brightly back. I felt my anger rise as it tried to hide the pain. Although I do deserve that pain. 'Inuyasha cut it out! You’ve got work to do!'

"What do we do now?" Sota asked, pulling me out of my self-loathing.

"We follow them, to make sure she's safe." I explained, while watching them head to one of those things Kagome explained to me as a car. Really I just wanted to keep an eye on this Jack guy and Kagome.

If Kagome was truly happy away from us, then who am I to take her away? I wanted to be sure she was happy exactly were she was. I wanted to make sure she wasn't unhappy about leaving us behind and moving on with her life. I wanted her to be sad here so I can have her all to myself, but I can't bare see her upset.

Her face from that last night flashed into my mind and hit me like a mountain. Her face was so pained and upset, far worse than it ever have been before. I shook that memory out of my head as I grabbed the kid onto my back and followed Kagome.

They arrived at some brightly lit building and walked hand in hand inside. Damn! I can’t see anything from out here!

“Sota? How do we get in there?” I asked hoping this kid would know.

“It’s a restaurant/hotel , we just walk in. But judging from what everyone is wearing, we need tuxedos to get in.” He said matter-a-factly.

“A tuxedo?” What the hell is that ???

“A suit you wear to look business like or fancy, but they cost a lot of money. Unless they magically appear on us, we won’t be able to get in.” The kid said.  If that’s what I need to keep a better eye on Kagome then that’s what I’m going to get.

“Come on. We’re getting these tuxedo things.”

“What?! How are we getting them? We’re broke. Unless you plan to steal one!” The kid said looking shocked. I actually wasn’t planning to steal, but that sounds like a better idea than the one I had.

“Just come on. Tell me where I can get us on and I’ll go get it.”

I grabbed the kid and put him on my back as I jumped off the large building we were on. Sota screams a little but it’s an improvement from the first time we did it. He’s just like Kagome when we jumped from trees from tree, she wouldn’t shut up screaming. If I were human I would probably be death.

I hit the ground with a soft thud and broke out into a run. Listening to the description of a tuxedo shop Sota was giving me.

Kagome’s POV

W-O-W. When I say that that food was possibly the best food I’ve ever eaten, aside from my mother’s of course, then believe it! I haven’t had lobster without having to cook it over an open fire and those rice balls where to die for! I haven’t eaten anything besides noodles and Wac Donald’s since me and Heidi are always too tired to cook. I looked over to see Heidi practically in heaven from the chicken she finished. She looked at me and we shared a smile, laughing because we both were probably thinking the same thing.

“What’s so funny?” Mike asked, probably thinking we were nuts.

“Oh nothing, just sharing a moment with Kagome.” Heidi said smiling up at Mike.

“What about a moment with me, beautiful?” Mike asked, pretending to pout.

“What do you have in mind good sir?” Heidi said.

In response to Heidi’s question, Mike grabbed her by the hand and gently pulled her over to the dance floor. They reminded me of Sango’s and Miroku’s love, the never wanted to admit they loved each other but you could see it in their eyes and smiles. Although Mike isn’t a pervert and Heidi is terrified of bugs. *sigh* I smiled thinking about the Miroku’s lecherous ways and Sango straightening him out. She was perfect for him, he was perfect for her; just like Mike and Heidi.

“You’re so beautiful.” Came a random voice. I looked over to see Jack looking at me and I couldn’t help the blush that colored my cheeks. They way he stared at me seemed so familiar to Inuyasha, but I just can’t put my finger on it.

I must have been thinking a little hard again because I didn’t even noticed when Jack came over to my chair, bowed, and stuck his hand out asking for me to dance. I felt embarrassed and rude because I don’t even know how long he was standing there like that. I grabbed his hand for this dance, hoping he’d forgive me for that little thinking moment.

“You seem……distant, Kagome. Is there anything wrong?” Jack asked me, worry illing his voice.

“No. I’m fine.” I said a little too quickly. His eyes narrowed a bit before letting it go.

A slow song that I wasn’t familiar with came on and Jack wrapped his arm around my waist, holding me tighter. I stretched my arms up and around his neck, he was really tall,  and buried my head in the crook of his neck.

Tonight was wonderful, a true moment that would never leave my memories. I felt content in his arms, not exactly perfect but they were enough. I felt all the sadness that I’ve been containing in my heart evaporate. I would no longer carry the burrden of my saddened past. Jack was here to help me forget.

“Thank you Jack.” I whispered, tears of happiness in my eyes.

“For what Kagome?” He was whispering too.

“For everything.” I said looking up at him. He gasped at my tear stained face but I shook my head, letting him know it was ok. He smiled a wonderful smile and I felt lips curve up into a smile. Our eye’s locked and he leaned in slowly. I closed my eyes anticipating what was to happen in the next 3 seconds.

And it was everything I hoped it to be. It could never compare to kissing Inuyasha, but this kiss helped me forget. It lessened the pain I’ve been carrying with me for so long. And even though it lasted only a couple seconds, I was finally content with my life.

Jack was the key to getting over Inuyasha for good.

I sighed and opened my eyes to see a smiling Jack. I smiled, glad I was making him happy. Closing my eyes once more, I leaned my head onto his chest. We stayed like that for a while, not dancing, not talking, not even kissing again. We were enjoying our moment. He held me tightly against him and I listened to his gracious heart thump in my ears. It was so similar to Inuyasha’s, only Inuyasha’s heart was a bit more faster. Damn. I need to stop comparing Jack and Inuyasha!

I mentally scolded myself and opened my eyes again. This time they landed on the eyes of a familiar figure in a tuxedo. Those eyes. Those familiar hazel eyes that I know even from across a full ballroom. No one had such hazel eyes with a hint of purple. No one had such emotions mixed into those eyes, that I’ve seen millions of times and still remembered even after a long agonizing year. Those eyes belong to only one person. Inuyasha.

I gasped from the impact of realization, also breaking eye contact with him. He’s here. I frantically looked back over to the spot to see him gone. I searched around ignoring Jack’s alarmed voice. Maybe I’m starting to hallucinate?

I began to feel a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach as I continued my search for those hazel eyes and white as snow hair. I began to feel dizzy and my head started to throb as my heart beat began to be heard loud as a bass drum in my ears. Jack’s voice became distant and far away.

I broke out of his grasp and looked at his worried expression.

“Kagome?! What’s wrong?? Are you ok??” He questioned over and over again.

I closed my eyes and took three deep breaths, calming down my body as all those weird feeling went away. I opened my eyes and ignored Jack’s eyes.

“Can we go? I’m not feeling too good.”  I said, it was the truth after all.

“Su-sure. Mike? Heidi? You guys ready to leave?” He called across the dance floor. Heidi looked up at her name and immediately rushed over to me and Jack, clearly alarmed.

“What’s wrong?” She asked, using her adult voice. I almost giggled.

“Kagome just isn’t feeling well. I think it was the food.” Jack said, he looked a little hurt.
But why?

“Ok. Mike already paid the bill, let’s go.”

We all started walking to the exit when I caught that weird twisting in my stomach. I cried out as I doubled over in pain and hit the ground. The last thing I acknowledged was a familiar voice screaming my name and white hair making their way over to me.
