Chapter 6: Train Rides
Delani Cordei
It's strange, being a normal teenage girl, then have your life completely change for the worse. I mean, here I am, sitting elbow to elbow with a boy I don't even know, drinking a cup of tea like it's a regular Thursday afternoon.
Arula pops in on us sitting in the dining car. "How are you two doing? Food tasting okay?" She says in her perky capitol accent. Hmph. Like she cares anyway. "It's all tasting magnificent," Chave Levington says. He's one of the more rich kids in district 8. Perfect posture, always polite (around adults), but has more money than any of us.
I hate him.
He's 16, two years older than me. His name was in the reaping bowl five times, and managed to get picked. He keeps bragging about how amazingly talented he is, and how this will be a breeze, yet he still scowls every time I roll my eyes. Does he honestly think I'm going to be happy that he's so great?!
My mood had changed today from sad, to scared, to sad again, to now, which I have a mix of anger and annoyance.
Arula looks at me expectantly, but I just avoid eye contact. I'm not in the mood to talk to her. "Hmph!" She says, her lips pressed tightly together. She turns on her heel, and struts out.
After the door whooshes closed behind her, Chave turns to me. "You know, it's making it worse being a bitch." I set my teacup down on the coffee table.
I roll me eyes again, ignoring the insult, and stand up. "Well at least I'm not a self-absorbed douche bag!" I say, truthfully, and storm out of the dining car to my bedroom.
I had only seen my bedroom once, when Arula gave us a tour, but I didn't really pay attention. Now I get a good look.
My bed has a red comforter, and red pillow cases. My walls are painted dark red, and I have two black dressers. Next to my bed I have a black nightstand with a dark gray lamp on it. There's also a window thing that shows a green forest (a/n the thing in Katniss' room in the book lol), and my carpets are dark gray.
I lay down on the bed, and pull myself under the covers. I feel the sheets underneath me, and their silk. I feel like one of those princesses I've heard of in those old stories, except all the red reminds me of blood.
I lay there in the softest bed I've ever lain in until I remember I didn't bathe today. I groggily pull myself out of bed and out of my room.
I wander around until I finally find a bathroom. It has lots of silver, white and blue decorations in it. The floor is white tile, and the walls and ceiling are blue smaller tiles. The counter is silver, and has a ivory sink (which makes me sick. I love animals). There's also a mirror with a white frame.
When you walk in, straight in front of you is the sink, and to the left is a white shelf with white towels on it, and to the right is a silver shower with a blue curtain.
On the counter there's a bar of white soap shaped like a seashell. I open the bottom (and only) cabinet of the sink and find a box of... tissues? I don't know what they are really but they feel like really soft paper. A tub of powder to powder my face, a light pink bottle with a cap (a/n perfume), and lots of other stuff I don't recognize.
I strip my dress down to my ankles, and take off my necklace. It must've been to forcefully or reckless because I accidentally dropped it on the tile.
"No!" I squeaked, and dropped to my knees to pick it up. It looked fine, but when I turned it around I saw one of the diamonds was cracked, and one of the diamonds popped out. I frantically looked around for the diamond, I mean... It was a diamond after all!
