The air outside the District Civil Affairs Bureau was crisp with the promise of something life-changing. The city lights illuminated the pavement, and a gentle breeze rustled through the trees lining the sidewalk. It was a night that should have been ordinary, but for the four men standing there, hearts pounding with excitement, it was anything but.
Ciro approached with measured steps, a sleek shopping bag in each hand. "Here," he said, handing the bags over to June and Buri. "Your suits."
June took his bag eagerly, pulling Buri along with him as they rushed toward the washrooms inside the building. "Come on, we don't have time to waste," June said, half-dragging Buri, his excitement barely contained.
Meanwhile, Kayu pulled out a neatly stacked set of documents from a folder, carefully flipping through each page. His brow furrowed slightly as he ensured everything was in order—birth certificates, household registrations, identification cards. His fingers worked swiftly, organizing them with the precision of someone who had done this kind of thing a thousand times before.
Ciro watched him, his lips quirking into an affectionate smile. "You are really in your element, huh?" He watched Kayu going on his work mode- the secretary mode.
Kayu didn't look up. "Well, someone has to make sure these two don't mess up their own wedding," he muttered, though there was warmth behind his words.
Not long after, the restroom doors swung open, and Buri and June stepped out, dressed in pristine white suits. The suits weren't anything fancy but it did made them stand out even more.
The sight of them—elegant yet brimming with nervous energy—made Ciro's heart swell. There was something beautiful about watching two people take this step together, even if they had decided on it so suddenly.
June exhaled, smoothing his suit jacket. "How do I look?" he asked, turning to Kayu.
Kayu gave him an approving nod. "Good." He stepped forward, adjusting the lapels of June's jacket before running a hand through his hair to neaten it. "Perfect, actually."
Buri raised an eyebrow. "What about me?"
Ciro chuckled, stepping forward to fix Buri's tie. "You will do," he teased.
Buri swatted his hands away. "That's not what I want to hear right before I get married."
Ciro laughed. "Fine. You look great. Very husband material."
Kayu, having finished perfecting June's appearance, glanced at his watch. "I already made the appointment inside. They said that your names will be called soon," he announced. "You can head in now."
June and Buri exchanged glances, then turned back to their friends. Excitement and nerves flickered across their faces, but they squared their shoulders and nodded.
"Alright," June said. "Let's do this."
With that, they stepped forward, pushing the glass doors open and disappearing into the bureau.
As the doors shut behind the soon-to-be-married couple, Ciro let out a long sigh. "Damn, they are really doing it." He chuckled, shaking his head. "I can't believe how fast this is happening. A few hours ago, Buri hadn't even proposed to June and now they are already getting married."
Kayu, standing beside him, smiled knowingly. "You sound like you're jealous."
Ciro turned to him, arching an eyebrow. "And if I am?"
Kayu's gaze flickered with something unreadable—something warm yet unreadably teasing. "Then maybe we should do the same."
Ciro blinked, caught off guard. "Wait, what?"
Kayu tilted his head slightly, his expression calm as if he had just suggested they go out for coffee. "Our documents are in the car," he said. "And I made an extra appointment."
Ciro's eyes widened. "Are you serious?"
Kayu shrugged. "We can do it. If you hurry up and grab the documents."
For a second, Ciro just stared at him, processing. His heart pounded in his chest, his breath catching in a mix of disbelief and exhilaration. He had thought about marrying Kayu before—of course he had—but he never expected it to happen like this. Not today. Not in the middle of a spontaneous wedding trip for their friends.
But here Kayu was, standing in front of him, perfectly composed yet leaving the decision in his hands.
Ciro didn't need to think twice. Without another word, he spun on his heel and sprinted toward the car, almost tripping himself in the process.
He managed to balance himself and avoid being injured on the day he was getting married.
Kayu chuckled, watching him go. "Silly man."
He then turned back to the building in front of him, with a huge grin on his face.
Ciro returned in record time, panting and slightly sweaty from running. The papers were clutched tightly in his hand, as if he were afraid someone would snatch them away. He came to a breathless stop in front of Kayu, his chest rising and falling rapidly.
Kayu smiled, his eyes softening. "You really ran all the way back, huh?"
Ciro grinned, still catching his breath. "Of course I did. I didn't want to be late and miss our appointment."
As a disciplined person, being late was not something in his dictionary. He had to be on time.
Kayu reached up, wiping the sweat from Ciro's forehead with gentle fingers. "You didn't have to rush so much," he murmured, his voice carrying that same affectionate exasperation he always had when dealing with Ciro's dramatic antics. "Our appointment is a few numbers after June's."
Ciro nods but that didn't change anything for him.
He was trembling—not from exhaustion, but from excitement. He was marrying Kayu, his Kayu. Kayu would forever be his partner and companion since the day forward. Just the thought was sending loads of adrenaline up his brain.
His hands were slightly unsteady as he held out the documents. "Was this why you made me change my clothes at the mall?" he asked, his voice tinged with breathless awe.
While picking up suits for June and Buri, Kayu had both himself and Ciro change into suits as well, stating that they would be the first ones to click pictures with the newlu weds.
Little did Ciro know that there was a hidden agenda behind it.
Kayu chuckled, glancing down at Ciro's crisp suit—the one he had chosen for him earlier, under the pretense of looking good for wedding pictures. "I told you we had to dress well, didn't I?"
Ciro shook his head in disbelief. " What about these documents? How did you get all these ready in such a short time? You planned this from the start?"
Kayu gave a small, knowing smile. "Let's just say I have developed certain... skills from being Khun Ciro's secretary for years."
Ciro laughed at that, his heart swelling with affection. He extended his hand, palm up, towards Kayu. "Well then," he said, his voice steady despite the overwhelming rush of emotions. "Shall we?"
Kayu looked at him for a moment before taking his hand. Their fingers intertwined, warm and steady.
With a shared smile, they stepped forward together, pushing open the doors to the District Civil Affairs Bureau—walking hand in hand toward their own unexpected, yet perfectly timed, forever.
