Today I Saw a Great Man

Today I saw a great man.
He would not appear that way if I were to pass him on the street.
I would rest on the conclusion that he is just another grandpa out for a stroll.
Maybe if I stopped and talked to him then I would know.
That this man has infinite words of wisdom, that flow from his mouth in a blend of Español and English.
He was presented so cleanly and properly, when I rested my attention upon him.
But when he spoke it was like he made all five-hundred of us a family.
People of all ages drawn in in rapture. Wondering amazed at these stanzas about normal life.
Things we take for granted made to seem so beautiful.
Today I saw a great man.
He would not appear that way if I passed him on the street.
But maybe now that I've heard his simple visions on the greeting of another, I'll know that we all are great men.

This next part is a revised version of what you see above.

Today I saw a great man.
And if I saw him on the street;
There'd be no difference in his beat
There'd be no special thing I'd see
I would not know his plan.

But maybe if I stopped to know
he's less a grandpa on a stroll,
and more a man who speaks the toll,
When words cannot tell or show
This man is here to help us grow.

This man I saw will tell you ways of how he spent his Saturday's
With love and warm tortillas made
By his mother whom he would never trade
For all the bills employers pay.

This man has loads of sorry tales,
And yet the good one still prevails.
When he recounted times he failed;
He laughed! His spirit wasn't ailed.
On life, for us, he lifts the veil.
