Monday - after school
“Where’s my purse?” my mom asks, looking around the house, making a mess everywhere she went. “It’s on the couch from Friday...” I say, slumping, at the dining table and eating my Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal.
I know it’s five thirty in the afternoon, but it’s never too late to eat cereal. Especially Cinnamon Toast Crunch... I told you that I eat breakfast after school!
She was leaving for two weeks, and then she was back, for real... Then she was leaving in the summer again...
“Speaking of Friday,” my mom starts and my heart was filled with pain. I really regret what I did Friday, even if it was just a party, I'm easily guilty. I'm really sensible, which is hard to believe. Most people see me as carefree and funny, but really, yeah, I can take a joke, but seriously, I'm sensible and I'm not really carefree... Not at all, actually. I care... A lot.
My stomach started to twist in knots; this is how I felt guilt, really. I just had butterflies in my stomach and not good ones. The bad butterflies, I like to call them, which sounds retarded...
“I've hired you a babysitter. I've decided that I no longer trust you to be home alone. I don't want you to invite anyone over or leave this house. Not even to take Levi out.”
Levi looks up from her bed; hearing her name be called out so loudly made her startled. Levi ran upstairs and practically locked herself in my room, which was where her small bed was.
“But mom!” I whine, throwing my hands up in the air, clearly mad. I know what I did was bad, but I'm mature. I'm responsible. I can take care of myself. I'm sixteen. 16. One, six. I, in no way, need a babysitter; I don't need someone to watch over my shoulder to see what I'm going to be doing every minute. I've learned from my mistake and I sure as hell won't try to do it again!
“You expect me to leave you home after what happened Friday night?” She asks me, grabbing her bag and opening the front door.
“Yeah! I mean, why would I do it again?” I ask, tilting my head and trying to look innocent in a way. “Please don't hire a babysitter.” I beg.
“You know, you promised you wouldn't invite anyone over, but you did anyway,” she says, walking out of the house. Boom. Another pang of guilt.
Looking over her shoulder, “I already hired them, by the way,” she called out. “Except them by six.”
She slammed the door and I could hear her car drive away in the distance.
After a while of just staring at my bowl of cereal, I put it in the sink and Levi came downstairs, clearly happy that my mom was finally gone. Levi didn't really like mom and mom didn't like Levi either. Levi didn't like my mom because mom was never affectionate to her. Hell, mom isn't even affectionate to me!
Sometimes she is, but it’s most likely that she'll be fighting with me than trying to make a conversation with me.
And mom didn't like Levi because Levi is apparently ‘a waste of money.’ He’s like another child, to her. Just another somebody that she had to pay food for and bathe. She wasn't so nice to Levi, either.
Levi whimpered and I walked up to her, petting her head as she closed her eyes, obviously liking the feeling of being pet. ”Levi, can you believe it? Mom hired me a babysitter.” I groan out, as Levi whimpers again and walks towards the door.
Levi started to scratch the door. Knowing what this meant, I took the leash and hung it on her collar. I didn't care what mom said. I'm allowed to at least take out Levi. Plus, the babysitter isn't even here yet...
