I sat, staring straight ahead as I pretended to flip through pages of Romeo and Juliet allowing my thoughts to completely take over my mind. It had been three weeks without any contact and then he broke it.
"Hey Ray," He smiled and my heart drop at the familiar nickname, "Were you in class on Friday?"
I nodded not trusting my voice completely. I was there, he wasn't.
"Could I get the notes from you sometime?"
"Does Jonas not have them?" I was surprised at the sassiness in my voice and I think he was too as he flinched.
"Well... I... I mean yeah." He stumbled over his words and I raised an eyebrow my heart pounding.
"You take better notes then he does."
I had to grit my teeth and the teacher cut me off before I could respond.
"Is there a problem Miss Humphrey? Mr. Attaway?" Mr. Ridgeman asked bringing the whole classes attention to us.
"No sir, Collin was just asking a question." I tried to not focus on all the curious stares watching us.
"Mr. Attayway, questions that disrupt my lesson are for after class. Please keep that in mine next time you have one." With that Mr. Ridgeman turned back to his warn copy of Shakespeare and continued.
And he turned back to the front.
