"So you're graduating in December?" I asked as he handed me a new mug of tea, this time the smell of earl grey greeted me and I welcomed it gladly.
"That's the plan. I'm hoping for sooner, it'll just depend on whether or not I can get all of the work done or not."
I played with a sugar cube, the once empty mug had long since been filled and was currently overflowing on to the table where Elijah was randomly building with them and the ones deemed unworthy of building he just ate. "Are there things in your way?"
He shrugged not meeting my eyes as he focus on pushing a cube into it's place, "I've gotten pretty sick in the last year or so and that's always a real bummer."
"Are you better now?"
This time when he smiled he watched me, "I'm doing good right now."
I think the relief that I felt was obvious as he took the cube from my hands, his fingers touching mine a second longer than was necessary. I blushed at the warm feeling that fluttered in my stomach and he took two sugars off the top of the castle and plopped them into his coffee.
"You're going to get sick off of all the sugar you've eaten tonight."
"You only have so long on this earth," Elijah smiled sticking another sugar cube into his mouth. "So why not use phrases other than fine and eat all the sugar you can? There's no reason not to."
It was my turn to smile and place a sugar cube on my tongue.
