Chapter Twelve

The clean glass hospital doors slowly slid open as Lindsey and her mom walked into the clean space. Her mom noticed her getting stiff, so she grabbed her hand and led her up the stairs.

"It's ok sweetie. All of your friends will be here. It's ok." Her mother reassured. Lindsey nodded, dropped her moms hand, and entered the room. Just as last night, grace was laying in a hospital bed, surrounded by Liz, Andy, Chrissy and her mother. As she walked in the moms walked out into the hallway. "Hey Grace." Lindsey walked closer and put her hands on the rails of the bed. Grace smiled, looking oddly happy for having just attempted suicide.

"Hey Lins! Ok so I'm assuming all of you want to know why I took those pills..." Grace said. Lindsey was so confused! Why was Grace so optimistic? So...happy? "Well, I'm better now, so that's nothing to worry about! So, what'd I miss at school?" Lindsey, Liz, and Andy all looked at each other. "B-but Grace? You just tried to.... Kill yourself? Are you sure your ok?" Andy squeaked out, in his awkward way. Suddenly Grace looked sad and looked around. "I'm fine Andy. But guys, where's... Uh... Where's Ben?" "Oh, his mom wouldn't let him ditch today..." Liz said, obviously still angry with him. "Oh. Well I don't feel well, you guys should go." She said. "But, we all ditched school for this. Don't you want company?" Chrissy said, her feelings hurt. "Please, just.... Just go!" Grace angrily sat up, and pressed the nurse button. "But, but Grace!" Lindsey said, shocked by the behavior of her once mellow friend. A nurse rushed in, followed by a Grace's mom and shooed the four out, slamming the door after them.

All of their moms looked at them. "Well that was a short visit! Is she ok?" Andy's mom exclaimed. "Well, uh, she wasn't, uh...." Andy squeaked out. "Feeling well. C'mon guys. Um, Mom, can we all go out to lunch?" Liz made puppy dogs eyes at her mom. "That sounds nice. Chipotle?" She finally said, after a long silent persuasion. "Yeah!!"
