Chapter 4

"Please have a seat," Sonia Browne said glancing again at the five chairs and the six girls.

"I can leave, it was a bad idea in the first place," Mya said turning and hurrying towards the door but Lucas intercepted her in a flash, gripping her wrist and holding her captive momentarily.

"Please don't leave," he said.

His voice sounded so gentle and pleading that Mya also felt her heart melt.

"I don't want to be any trouble," Mya muttered trying to extricate her wrist but suddenly realizing that he was holding her tightly. She wanted to look into his face and demand that he let her go but she was torn, torn between relishing his touch and abhorring the very feel of him.

"You're no trouble, Mya."

Did he say that because he knew who she was or did he say that because he had seen the form with her name on it?

"You couldn't possible know that," Mya said.

"There are some things your heart just tells you," Lucas said and Mya gasped. Was he flirting with her? Did he recognize her or was he just being the old Lucas Fierra – woman killer?

"Is there a problem?" Sonia Browne had come to join them at the door.

"Mya seems to be having second thoughts," Lucas said. "I'm hoping to convince her to give us a chance."

"You can't force anyone. The choice is up to Mya."

She could probably have added 'I would prefer if she didn't come', but she didn't need to because her voice made it clear enough.

"Please," Lucas said quickly.

Mya hesitated. He seemed to really want her to be there, to walk away from this would be to walk away from the only opportunity for revenge that she might ever have. Lucas Fierra had probably forgotten her and was thinking she was just another prostitute that he could take advantage of, she had something on him, she knew who he was.

"Maybe I'll give it a try," Mya said and the smile that spread across Lucas' face made Mya's heart lurch. How could he possibly look so innocent and earnest?

"You won't regret it," Lucas said.

"It's not her I'm worried about," Sonia grumbled under her breath.

"We just need to get a bit more information and then we'll have one of our staff take you home," Lucas said and Sonia sighed loudly.

"Thanks," Mya responded.

"Someone will collect you from home in two days time," Lucas went on.

"You really don't have to..."

"I insist," Lucas said.

His voice was stronger than she remembered, more authoritative. She wasn't happy with the idea of thinking Lucas would send someone to her apartment but his tone didn't seem to leave any lead way for refusal.

"I'll collect you myself," Sonia offered and Lucas looked surprised.

"Oh," Mya muttered. She couldn't help the brief thought that the newspapers might read 'unidentified woman's body found in nearby lake'.

"I have no problem collecting the girls," Lucas said.

"The last thing we need is negative publicity and rumours. It's best for a woman to collect them," Sonia said.

"You worry too much," Lucas responded with a grin. "Everything is going to be perfect. God is in this, what can possibly go wrong?"

Sonia Browne shrugged and turning walked away with Mya and Lucas trailing behind her.

"Trouble doesn't set up like rain, my boy," Sonia said.

Mya stifled a smirk. If nothing else Sonia Browne was right about that, Mya had a truck load of trouble planned for Lucas Fierra and he wouldn't even see it coming.
