Happy birthday Kai 🎉
It was time for Kyrie to get back on the court. Months of training and hard work paid off. They were in a new season and that meant his time to prove himself had arrived. Throwing the ball into the air and making it with no pain in his movements made him feel confident. His agenda today was simple, it was his last session of training before his 'Welcome Back' press conference. His teammates were excited to have him back in the building, the energy from his first season felt in the air.
"You ready to get back out there?" Klay asked as he switched from his sneakers to his slides.
"My brotha, I am." It was an amazing feeling to have another vet on the team with championship experience. He formed a bond with Klay over the old era, seeking peace, and coming back from the same injury.
Kyrie's phone vibrated in the wooden shelf of his locker. Looking at the contact it was a saved number

"Hey Lo, how are you?" Klay ears go perked up. He knew of Lauren and had the pleasure of meeting her a handful of times. It was always a joy to witness the beginning stages of a love story.
"Umm hey Kai," the voice didn't belong to Lauren, but to Marlene. "Oh, hey Mar, what's up? "
Marlene didn't know who else to call but she was between a rock in a hard place. "So boom, I'm actually stuck in Minnesota right now and I have our mobile line with me. Lauren is at home. I need you to go check on her."
Kyrie's whole demeanor changed, a bit frigid as he heard that something may be wrong with Lauren. "What's wrong?"
"She's not feeling well, like doing bad and I tried to get back in enough time before her symptoms got worse but it's not working out."
He wondered why Lauren didn't reach out to him and mention that she was sick. He would've come over sooner.
"I'll head over there now."
After ending the call, he began packing up his things. "Aye man, you out?" Daniel Gafford asked walking into the locker room. "Yeah I got an emergency,"
"Don't you got a press conference?" PJ asked while grabbing his duffle bag.
"Yeah, I'll do it tomorrow. They gone have to understand."
Kyrie wasn't careless, he sent Kidd a message about needing to reschedule and made his way to Lauren's house. She was never sick and when he was down and out, she was there for him. He needed to return the favor.
"What are you doing here?" She groaned into her pillow. He had the code to her home, so he didn't have to bother her to get in. Now she was asked to sit up so that she could eat the food he brought over.
"Marlene asked me to check in on you since her flight was cancelled. I didn't know you were sick. Why didn't you tell me?"
Lauren didn't like pity and she knew Kyrie would give her that. This cold had her down longer than expected. It was day three and she was nothing but miserable. "She didn't have to do that. You didn't have to come."
"I got you some chicken and rice soup from one of my favorite places. It's halal." He completely ignored her statement because it wasn't true, he needed to be there.
