"Yo Priest man!" Preston opened his eyes to see Jesse towering over him. "I forgot your name all I know is it sounded like priest man," Jesse said. "Preston," he replied annoyed. "Right! So how was that sorority party?" Jesse asked. "Not bad," Preston replied, pulling on his blue jeans. "I got a free hour... Wanna hang? I got Mario Kart," Jesse suggested. "Can't. I have class," Preston told him. "Ah Mr. Brains! What class?" Jesse asked rubbing his hands together. "Philosophy if you must know," Preston answered, ready to slap Jesse. "Whoa cool! See you later gator" Jesse waved him off. Preston slung his back pack over his left shoulder, relieved to get away from Jesse.

Preston was the first to arrive in Dr. Seldon's class. "Good morning, Preston," Dr. Seldon greeted him. "Good morning Professor," Preston replied on default. "Anything you need?" Dr. Seldon asked, glasses sliding off his nose, due to the extremely raised eyebrows. "Nope just getting ready for class," Preston lied- he wasn't getting ready for class. Instead he was drawing Mia's name all over his notebook like a 16 year old girl in love with Zac Efron. "It's Friday, Preston. I don't teach at eight, I teach at seven. You're actually quite late," Dr. Seldon replied. Preston's mouth dropped. "I'm so sorry, professor. It must've slipped my mind. Please understand I have been-" Preston tried to explain himself. "Preston I understand. Just rennet for next week. Do you have any classes right now though?" Dr. Seldon asked. "Not according to my schedule," Preston smiled. "Then come sit with me. I could use some conversation," Seldon suggested. Preston made his way to Dr. Seldon's desk. The professor pulled out a chair across from Preston. "You're very special, Preston. You're a lot like me when I was younger," Dr. Seldon began to talk. "You can't be that much older than me Professor," Preston said, causing Dr. Seldon to smile. "I'm nearly forty-one years old," Dr. Seldon confessed. "That aside, I think you should listen to Mia. I told her to stop down by my office after your 'studying'. We need to talk. I see myself in you, Preston. You're like the son I never nor will have had. I want to know you, Preston," Dr. Seldon expressed. Normally, Preston would've been creeped out by this kindness from anyone, but not right now. "I want to know you too, Professor. Tell me about yourself," Preston convinced. At first the professor was against the idea until Preston finally convinced him to do it. "I grew up here in Ohio. I grew up in a very stable home...for six years. My mother and father died. They were brutally murdered by an intruder. I wanted to grow up with my sister-bit she was twelve and couldn't legally take care of me. I had plans you know- I wanted to have my dad teach me to drive, my mom embarrass me at graduation. I wanted to get married and have children, take them to my parents' house to get filled up on candy. I wanted to know my parents. Now my grandparents were long gone, and I refused to go to an orphanage or foster home. So, I ran away. I lived in the woods for what my young mind felt to be centuries. I ran back home to find my sister and a young couple. My sister was in tears when she saw me. 'How did you survive those two weeks?' She asked me. Of course it felt much longer than that. Anyways, the couple raised my sister and I until she went to college and I moved in with my friend. Then, I went to this school to become an educator- I guess that's the only thing I can check off my list. So that basically gets me where I am," Dr. Seldon . "I know how you feel Professor. I was abused growing up. When I was ten, a woman named Chastity Williams took me in. Her husband Dave was furious, and left her for a 17 year old. But Chastity never left me at least. I never had a father figure in my life," Preston said, tearing up. "Preston, will you be my son?" Dr. Seldon asked, seriously. "If you be my father," Preston answered, all the pain of never having a dad, leaving him. He though he was the only one with this much pain inside.
