Where Loyalties Stray

Chapter Twelve

Steven was eating Macaroni and Cheese for dinner when the stomping started again. Steven sighed into his cheesy dinner.

"Why do they interrupt a perfectly good dinner?" asked Steven as he slid off the stool and looked over at the Crystal Gems, Connie, and Lapis.

Pearl was making a large tower out of multiple decks of cards. The tower covered a huge area on the floor. Pearl was standing on a chair as she made a top part of the tower. Amethyst was sitting on the bench by the front windows. She was swinging her whip around, eyes closed. Garnet was sitting on the couch. Her head was in her hands and she would look up every few minutes, before putting her head back in her hands. Lapis was sitting on the other edge of the couch. Lapis was looking down at her lap, playing with the hem of her dress. Connie was walking back and forth, watching Rose's sword in her hand. She kept looking at her reflection in the sword and would keep swinging it back and forth.

"Because they don't care. Duh," said Amethyst, who sat up.

Garnet stood up as well. "Let's go."

"Wait!" Lapis exclaimed. Everyone looked over at her. "We cannot let Steven and Connie go and fight. They will get hurt, or worse-" Lapis drops to a whisper. "-killed."

"We can fight!" yelled Steven.

"Yeah, exactly! We are strong enough. Plus, we can just form Stevonnie," Connie added.

"Good idea, Connie," said Garnet. "Gems, let's go."

Lapis, Amethyst, Garnet, and Pearl walked out of the beachhouse and onto the beach.

"Well.." Connie said, blushing.

Steven turned music on the radio and held out his hand to Connie. She laughed and took his hand. Both of them glowed as Steven twirled Connie. Stevonnie formed, with Rose's sword in her right hand.

"Let's g-" she started. "Oh no!"

Stevonnie walked into Pearl's magnificent card tower. The towers crashed down, leaving cards flying.

"We don't have time," muttered Stevonnie, before walking out of the beachhouse.
