Ok, so we've all seen that one character. That one character who says "I'm so crazy" or "I'm insane!" or "haha I have a depression and anxiety it's so glamorous and romantic" or something like it. Maybe you've made one or you RP one. Maybe you think this is ok.
Stop.
Just. Fucking. Stop.
This is a deeply harmful and misleading misconception of how such things work. It's upsetting to people who have to go through those very real struggles. I know; I have three psychologists and now have to do school at home, cut off from people, because of my mental illnesses.
I'm not saying don't have characters with mental illnesses; do that. Give your characters depression or anxiety or schizophrenia. Give them BPD, give them mental illness because that kind of representation is really heartwarming.
But do it right. Don't romanticise it or make it seem like a joke. This 'book' is written and designed to show people how to realistically and non-harmfully write and/or RP a character with a mental illness.
