Taehyung heard the sounds of movement around his room, gradually waking him. He stretched, slowly opening his eyes while taking a deep breath, letting his body adjust to consciousness. Yawning, he turned over and saw Seokjin at the desk, shrugging off a jacket as though he had just returned from somewhere. Blinking several times to clear his vision, Taehyung rubbed his eyes and sat up against the wall behind the bed. Just as he opened his mouth to speak, Jin beat him to it.
"Good morning! I went out and got breakfast for us," Jin said, pulling out a chair and sitting down. "I tried not to wake you."
Taehyung furrowed his brows while listening to him, his gaze studying Jin closely. He took a deep but light breath as he adjusted to waking up.
"Do you want to freshen up so we can eat? I'm really hungry," Jin added, his voice cheerful.
Taehyung blinked again but said nothing as he stood up and headed to the bathroom.
When he returned, the delicious aroma of the breakfast on the desk hit him, and he realized how hungry he had become. He pulled a storage bin from the corner of the room closer to the desk, using it as a seat next to Jin's chair.
As he settled in, he felt Jin's hand resting on his thigh. Their eyes met, and Jin leaned in, kissing his lips. "I'm sorry for overreacting last night."
"You really did," Taehyung replied, meeting Jin's gaze with a serious expression.
"I know, but it felt like you were ignoring my calls. I just hate feeling ignored, Taehyung," Jin confessed, pulling back slightly.
"I was at work, Seokjin. You knew that," Taehyung said, trying to keep his tone measured. "I didn't mean to ignore your calls. I risk losing my job if I stop what I'm doing at work to answer your calls. We've talked about this before."
"I understand, but in the moment, I felt ignored. I don't want to feel that way again, and I'll try to be more mindful in the future. I hate when we fight or argue," Jin said, looking into Taehyung's eyes. "I want us to go to sleep without being mad at each other. Last night, I could tell you were mad at me, and it didn't make me feel good."
"I wasn't mad at you, Seokjin," Taehyung admitted. "I was upset about the situation but wasn't angry with you. I hope that we can build trust and keep our commitments to each other moving forward. For instance, not going through each other's phones."
Jin sighed. "Let's eat; I'm hungry."
"Seokjin, I'm serious," Taehyung insisted. "When you search my phone, it feels like you don't trust me, and that really makes me question our relationship. I do everything I can to show you how much I want and care for you. I love you and put myself out there, so I don't understand why you're still looking for reasons to doubt me. Am I not doing enough for us, Seokjin?"
"It's not about you not doing enough; it's about how friendly you are with the wrong people, Taehyung. I know you care about me, and I care about you too. But if I were to go spend time with my parents next month, I worry it would be easy for you to start liking someone else—"
Taehyung took Jin's hands, interrupting him. "Please stop! Why would I go and like someone else when you're my boyfriend? Distance won't change my feelings for you. If you're worried about these things, should I be worried too? Maybe I should, but I'm not because I trust what we have. If things change and you end up liking someone else, I'll have to accept it."
"I can't accept you liking someone else, so why would you be okay with me liking someone else?" Jin asked, clearly annoyed by Taehyung's response.
"I didn't say I'd like it, but I would accept it if you thought someone else was better for you," Taehyung replied.
