Chapter 5

It's been a week since Darius' father was buried at the town's cemetery. Erin has been worried about her bestfriend. Darius seems a different person now. Sad and unpredictable.

I guess that's what you get of losing someone so dearly. You tend to lose some humanity in you. The glow of life seems fading. She lost her father, too but she was too young to remember. I think when you're father died when you were still a child. It can be an advantage because you cannot feel the grief of loss but it's also a terrible thing to grow up without a father. Erin cut her thoughts while seeing Darius coming out from the classroom after his last exam.

Hey! She waived at him while sitting in a bench near an acacia tree.

He smiled back when he saw her and headed to her area.

Have you waited here for too long? Darius asked her.

No, just a couple of minutes. I actually went to the registry office. You know checking on some papers for our graduation. You may check yours, too. It's hard when you have misspelled names in legal documents. She said to him while still sitting at the wooden bench.

He looked at her closely. Darius had never watch Erin talks to him like she is the only person in the world that matters. For the longest time that they have been with each other. He could feel that his entire soul is somewhat connected to her especially now that he had lost both his parents.

Darius, are you alright? Can you sit? You have been staring at me and standing there in front of me with blank expression. Is there something wrong with my face? Erin suddenly felt conscious.

No, no. Sorry! I was just thinking I'll do the same. I'll visit the registry office tomorrow after I'll drop by at dad's office. He suddenly replied sort of confuse.

Okay, just make sure you're alright. I'm just here for you. You want me to come with you at your dad's office tomorrow? She sounded unconvinced about his answers.

Hmmm, I'll be having a board meeting with the company's shareholders. I don't think you will have fun with me in there. Honestly, I don't know what to do for a start. Dad's company needs me now. I don't even know if I can be of help. Darius' voice sounds worried.

I know you can do it. Trust me. I know your dad meet your mom now up there and he is happy with her. Both your parents will guide you in this new journey. Don't be afraid. She put her right hand on top of his left hand.

Correction, it's not your dad's company now. It's yours to have. She continued.

Oh, God! Don't ever mentioned that again to me Erin. It does not sink in yet that by the age of 21, I'll be running a huge company. This is crazier than I could ever imagine. He was speaking to her in disbelief.

Yeah, whatever but tomorrow you'll face reality and life must go on.. You have to be stronger now. She looks at him with a challenging eyes.

Can we go somewhere quiet and peaceful? We'll drive around. I need this solemn time for tomorrow's event. He seriously speaks.

Yes, we'll do that but before anything else can we stop by for a drive thru? I'm starving. Erin was rolling her eyes and smiled.

Haha yes little Ms. Tazmanian. Your brain is always about food. That little stomach of yours had never been full. He laughed at her.

She was laughing, too. It's true. She always demands for food over anything when they do things or look around on something.

They dropped by at Burger King and ordered bacon burger with cheese, some large fries and large apple juice. Erin is eating her burger while Darius is driving. She made him take some bites of the burger and fries.

Hey, be careful not to mess around the car's carpet. He scolded her as his mouth is busy chewing the burger and fries.

Be careful with your driving, too. I don't want to die young. She teasingly smiled at him while wiping the corner of his mouth with a tissue paper.

The car stopped at a dead end of the town. It was a 30-minute drive away from the main town. They are looking now into a close property with high fence. A secluded grassy area.

Hey, are you sure this is the right place you want to go? Erin felt a little bit uneasy.

Yes, this is where I want us to go. Come on, follow me! Darius hurriedly commanded her.

He inserted himself into a small hole in the fence and crawl into a grassy wet ground. Then, he followed a narrow pathway with tall grasses and weeds all around them.

Ohh, my Geee! Do you think there's snake in here. It's almost dark now. She complaint.

Ssshhh.. He signalled her to silent herself.

When she look forward and walk closer, she can see a tall tree with a huge trunk near the edge of a cliff. Below the cliff is a deep blue sea. The sun is about to set. The blood red orange sky and the white gray clouds. All mixed up. It's like they're watching a perfect painting except that the colors are not just in a canvas. It's actually the real scene of the sun, the sky and the sea seem meeting together in one place.

It's beautiful! She's overjoyed.

Yes, so much artistry. He speaks as he looks at her while leading her to sit beside him under the tree.

For a moment their hearts and vision were captivated by the nature's true beauty while leaning their back against the tree.

This will be our secret hideout. He suddenly speaks as he held her right hand entwined to his while still looking at the picturesque scenery.

Erin was speechless and only smiled at him. She is either amuse of the beauty of the sunset that she has been witnessing or it's all about this tingling sensation that she felt when her bestfriend hold her hand tightly.

Erin and Darius seems more comfortable now with each other more than ever but there's something in their subconsciousness that says, more than the eyes can see and words can tell.. We will find it out on the next chapters..
