I just got my company's, Featherhead Media's, tax declaration and yearly financial statement from my accountant and found that we almost broke even last year! Why? I had my first customer. Why am I so excited about this? Well. up until now, except for a small amount of royalties I've received, all I see are the bills. Making music, having a homepage, paying for plugins, etc. it all costs money. But the way I got my first "customer" was completely organic. We began as friends and still are.
We met in 2017 at an audition in Nashville. She was a judge and I was auditioning at the Objective for the Extreme tour. We hung out with each other throughout the week I was there and had a lot of fun. We just clicked and became friends. We've kept in touch off and on through the years, and three years ago, I created an animated music video for her song L-L-L-O-V-E for free.
She saw that I was having some success in what I was doing at the time on social media and eventually she asked me to help her by doing an SEO analysis of her Internet presence and create the music video called The Flight which you can see on the top of this chapter.
I am really thankful that we had this great partnership because it taught me a lot too.
You never know when someone you help for free asks you (sometimes years later), to do a bigger job and get paid for it.
Make it your ambition to be good and kind to everyone and in this business. It makes life easier!
I don't know if I'm going to pursue being a SEO consultant or not, but I did find it interesting and fun. What I was able to do was analyse all of her Internet presence and give her advice on how to brand her music and reach her fans. I analyse what types of social media content that she was posting - how they did by looking at the stats and comparing the different kinds to see which ones were the most impactful. sometimes that's a good thing to have someone outside of your sphere do as we are often blinded by our own proximity to Music.
Until next time...
