Matt's POV

10:00

I woke up feeling well rested and ready to do absolutely nothing with my life.

Man do I love summer break.

After getting dressed I went downstairs to find my mom making breakfast, something I actually had time to eat now. The sweet smell of blueberry pancakes pleased my sense of smell as I smiled with glee. I grabbed a plate and made my way to the stove as my mom served up some  delicious food.

"Good morning." I greeted while giving her a kiss on the cheek to express my appreciation; something I don't do to often.

"Someone's extra happy today." She responded surprised.

"Just glad I have a mother to cook food like this every morning for me."

"Don't get to comfortable. The only reason I'm cooking this often is because you're here."

"Well then aren't I lucky to be here to eat it all?"

"I guess you are. Do you have any plans for today?"

"Just hang with my friends and go to a party later. Why do you ask?"

"We should spend more time together, while you're here. I'm surprised how fast you've made friends."

"It's a natural born talent. We could have our own movie night tomorrow and order takeout if you want?"

"Sounds perfect to me."

"Until then, I gotta go though." I ended the conversation.

"You ready?" I asked Cassie, still feeling a bit uneasy about this party.

"We've done this once before, I'm sure I'll be fine." She responded.

We made our way into the party Chase had invited me to. But this wasn't an ordinary party, consisted of mainly high school dropouts who needed a little fun in their lives. They wanted an escape, a release. Chase, a former high school dropout who had gotten his life together, understood their situation and held parties for them to show he wasn't going to deny his past.

I thought of these parties as more hardcore because they heavily involved drugs. You could easily look around anywhere to find a seller and have a little fun yourself. I, for one, wasn't very interested. The only reason I even went to these was to be supportive of my friends and try to get a different perspective of the world. But in case of anything, I had Cassie come with to stop me from doing something stupid.

Wanting to introduce Cassie to Chase we started our search. I started up a conversation out of curiosity.

"Are you gonna get high this time?" I asked her.

"I think I'll have to pass again, you can yourself though." She replied quickly.

"Drugs aren't really my thing either."

"Then why'd you bother coming to this bloody party then!?" Some random guy obviously on something screamed at us.

"Last one I went to turned out to be fun even though I wasn't high." I explained

"I don't know what you're talking about mate 'cause drugs make everything better."

"Maybe we'll try some later." Cassie adds to the conversation. I can tell she's uncomfortable by her urgency to end the conversation.
