Summer vacation hasn't lived up to its expectation so far. It's just been a combination of drama and summer work and I'm just ready to have some fun.
"Hey, are you busy today?" I called Joy
"Yeah, I kind of got a volunteer job at the library for the summer. I meant to tell you earlier but never got around to it. Why?"
"I was just hoping to go out into the world and do something interesting today."
"Try one of your boyfriends. I have to go though before I get caught on the phone. Don't have too much fun." She said before the line dropped.
I would hang out with Matt but I don't know what we'd do or if he even has plans. I settle on calling Donny and cross my fingers he's not busy.
"Hey, Cas!"
"Hey, Donny. I was wondering if you were busy today?"
"Actually no. What did you want to do?"
"I don't know; I just want to go do something interesting today, summer has been too bland for my taste."
"We could go to the beach? Joy and that other guy can join us too."
"That would actually be perfect! But Joy can't come because she has a volunteer job at the library and I don't know if Matt's busy, but I'd rather if we just hung out. Let's have an us day."
"Sounds good to me. I'll be there in 30?"
"See you then," I stated before hanging up.
I proceeded to pack everything I'd need for the beach: sunscreen, towels, and all that jazz. I then changed into my teal bikini and put my favorite flowy dress over top. Slipping on my sandals and grabbing my packed bag, I headed out of my bedroom to ask my dad if I can even go.
"Hey dad, are you okay with me going to the beach today with Don?"
"Sure but text me when you're heading back. And I'm serious about this."
"I promise I'll text you when we're starting to head home. And I kind of need some money too."
"Will $50 be enough?"
"Oh yeah, that'll be more than enough. Thanks, and we should make some plans this summer."
"I'll look into it. Have fun."
And with that, there was a car honk outside. Seeing it was Donny's car I made sure I had my phone and keys then headed out.
"Hey, you ready?" Donny asked me as I buckled my seatbelt.
"Yeah, let's head to the beach."
=====
After driving around the parking lot for almost 10 minutes we somehow found a parking space. The second I stepped out of the car I took in a deep breath to lavish myself with the salt sea air; the beach is my favorite part of summer.
"You okay over there? You look like the beach is heaven for you." Don states
"That it is my friend, that it is."
"Well we dragged a couple of things to heaven with us, you mind helping me carry some of it?"
"I don't know. I don't think angels should do such things."
"Well, then this angel isn't going to have any of her stuff with her."
"Fine," I admitted defeat.
After trudging our way across the parking lot to get to the beach, we luckily found a spot not too far away. We laid out our towels and I searched my bag for my sunscreen while Donny took off his shirt to reveal an almost six-pack. Yikers, that's my best frannd!
I was embarrassed of my body so when I saw Don turn his back I slipped off my dress in a second. Luckily he didn't notice but I continued to play it off casually by putting sunscreen on my arms and legs.
"Hey, where's the sun-" was all he got out before turning around and trying to give me a secret once-over.
"Here," I hand over the sunscreen after taking a little extra for my stomach and face.
"Thanks," He says while staring at my face, weirdo.
I go to put on my sunglasses and simply bask in the beauty that is being at the beach when I hear, "Last one in is a rotten egg!"
I start sprinting like my life depends on it, taking no care as to who gets sand in their face. They can eat my dust, literally. I take races seriously if you can't tell by now.
When I see my line of entry is clear I turn my head to see Donny is a few seconds from hitting the water. Summoning my inner Usain Bolt and push through with every minuscule amount of energy, down to my very cells, to reach the water before him. I make it with a second to spare but forget about the force of drag that comes with swimming. Falling face forward into the shallow water I regret the importance I put on races.
Getting up I'm met with the harsh reality of how cold the water is and cackling that belongs to none other than Donny. With my throbbing face, I march my way over to Don and tower over his curled up body while he continues to laugh.
"Come on. You gotta admit that was funny." He says each word between laughs
"You're a jerk." I huff while crossing my arms
"I don't think I've ever seen you run that fast before. You knocked down those kids sandcastle and that poor old lady had sand for lunch." He said before going into another fit of laughter.
"Well, she can eat my dust." I voiced my inner thought causing Don to laugh even more.
"But the best part was the look on your face when you got into the water. You couldn't stop yourself and knew what was going to come next."
And with that, I just decided to walk away from such an immature child.
"Wait!" Don said before grabbing one of my ankles and making me fall all over again.
I turn around and glare at him while he tries to hold in his laughter and apologize.
Boy, do I have the best friends this world has ever known?

Haha. Funny story. See I had everything before the beach scene written in early January but I forced myself to finish this chapter today. On February 22nd. Haha.
So I'm on winter break until the 27th and I want to say I'll post another chapter before then but as you can already tell I'm horrible at keeping update promises.
So uh any of my OG reader MVPs in the house...Sorry I've let you guys down. I would have stopped reading this book if the author updated as horribly as I do.
BUT here's something to keep you waiting for the next chapter. Maybe there'll be some food, some sunsets, some smooches but you'll have to wait and see...
BUT I HAVE AN IMPORTANT QUESTION I NEED YOU ALL TO ANSWER (I'm talking to you ghost readers): Do you want me to do "previously on..." at the beginning of each chapter? I think it'll help since I update soooo often. Haha.
Welp. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe. Haha.
Goodbye, my loves!!
