I wake up to a sound of pans clattering from the kitchen, I see Niall sprawled across my legs, and I smile. I gently push him back and cover him with the blanket, he groans and adjusts but continues to sleep. I creep towards the kitchen, careful not to make the floors creak, and see mom sipping on her coffee, as if nothing happened the previous night. I roll my eyes and tip toe up the stairs, still trying to go unnoticed by my mom. Halfway up the stairs, I lose my footing and slip, causing me to tumble down the stairs… fantastic. The edge of a stair step catches my shoulder blade and I wince.
Mom rushes to me, helping me off the floor. I’m still angry with her, for making dad leave us. It’s her fault, I know it is, and she knows that’s what I think. As soon as she grabs my arm I yelp, and shake her off me.
“Maggie..” she starts.
“Just don’t” I simply snap, not caring about anything but me right now. I run up the stairs, no use in being quiet now. I head down the hall to my room, and slam the door shut, just loud enough to let my mom know I was pissed. Most of the time, after I sleep, I could care less about what happened the night before, but waking up to no dad, was a reminder that everything was not okay. I quickly jump in the shower to think, where it’s calm and relaxing, in the shower is usually when I come up with the best solutions, or ideas.
After my shower, I realize I didn’t think of anything productive, what a waste of time. I towel dry my hair and shake it back and forth, not bothering to brush it, and just letting it be natural. Then, I slip on a pair of black leggings, and throw an oversized hoodie over it, not forgetting to put on my boots. Finally, I grab my phone and headphones and decide to take a walk, no way I’m going to school today.
Mom yells at me as I swing open the front door, and jog out, but I didn’t care. I head to the park because, I mean where else would you go to ditch? I pull out my phone and text Claire telling her I won’t be there.
Me: Heyy, skipping school today(; Wanna join?
Claire: Girl, you’re crazy! Where are you?! I’ve never ditched before.
Me: I’m a first-timer lol @ the park(: sooo…..
Claire: Welpp…YOLO see you soon(;
I plug in my earbuds and listen to Pandora, while on the swings waiting for Claire, I had lots to tell her. Seeing as how she has the hots for Jesse, I might leave out the part about me getting butterflies. I still am not sure where I stand with Finn, but I’m not looking for anything in that kind of way. Taylor Swift fills my ears, and I hum along, probably looking like an idiot. I see a short figure in the distance with long, straightened, red hair. Knowing it’s Claire, I get off the swing and jog up to meet her. She meets me halfway, and we hug briefly. Her green eyes, are especially green today, like an emerald. She wore the same thing I did, but a baggy sweatshirt instead of a hoodie.
“Twinning” she grins.
“Oh yes. So spill” I say.
“What do you mean?” she quickly responds.
“You, Jesse, I need details” I say sitting on the grass, trying to get a grasp on what she feels.
